She decides to investigate before

Katya remembers this 9th of June very well. She had an argument with her mum about going to club with her friends. Her mum was worried that Katya was not taking her studies seriously lately and had asked her father to talk which he did but this ended up ugly and she had a huge fight with her mum. Words were said which she now regrets dearly. Her parents went on to some friend’s cocktail party that night and her dad had one few many as usual. Usually her mum would sit behind the wheel but that day she had forgotten her glasses home after her fight with Katya. Their car was found the next day in the river, both stuck in with their seat belts on. No autopsy was performed as her father’s blood test showed and huge amount of ****. The official version was that their car went off the cliff before the bridge near Highbury as the driver, Katya’s dad, supposedly missed the swerve as he was driving way too fast.

Katya had accepted this version as she knew very well what it was to drive with her drunk father. He had had quite a few accidents back home on the mother land, though he did come back home safe and sound.

-“That is not the way I will go, Katenka! Your father will die a hero, you will see!” She remembered him saying that every time he would come home without his car, which would either be in a tree or taken by the police. He always managed to get out of trouble from the law though. He had connections back there. One of them was Uncle Vitya. He was a close friend of her father’s. Apparently, he was the only one her father had told where he was when they left for the states. The last time she met him was at her parents’ funeral. He came all the way to part with his best friend and then handed Katya his “vizitka”. He asked her to call him anytime if she ever needed anything. That was when Katya found out that her dad’s friend Vitya was the police chief of the region they used to live in. That explained how her dad used to get away with all those accidents and keep his license.
