She Eventually Finds The Entrance To Molly's Lair

(Originally by Cheese111)

Though the skunk's vague instructions were hard to follow, eventually the sheriff located the crack in the wall that she had referred to. In it was a crude map of Silver Lakes with a red circle around one of the buildings. The weasel knew the main entrance to Molly's lair was in the sunken church tower. This was a different entrance. Hopefully that would allow her to sneak right past the guards. The voodoo rat on her own was already a formidable threat, she didn't need her goons to join in that fight as well.

"Hopefully this'll work." Texas muttered to herself. A shiver ran down her spine at the thought of returning to Lucy after rescuing April. The skunk would no doubt expect some kind of gratitude. But there were worse things that could happen. If Molly got her ratty hands on the weasel there was a good chance she'd never leave Silver Lakes.

With renewed resolve the sheriff set off to the old town. Amidst the eerie smells of the bog that surrounded it she reached the half-sunken town of Silver Lakes. Texas felt an unnerving sense of dread weighing on her shoulders. Not many bandits could be said to intimidate the weasel, but Molly was one of them. Her unrelenting sadistic nature and the rumors of all the other lawbringers she had killed did little to calm the weasel's mind. But Texas had an advantage. She got off her horse a good distance outside of the town and carefully skulked towards the building marked on the map. She half expected it to be a dud, but to the weasel's greater surprise there actually was a trapdoor. Silently it swung open and the sheriff took a deep breath before going in.

The narrow tunnel was barely lit or reinforced, a dangerous prospect in the loose soil of Silver Lakes. It was also free of any rats that might sound an alarm. The passage got so small she had to crawl on all fours to get through, but there was light at the end of the tunnel. Steadily the weasel kept going, hoping she would end up close to April. Suddenly she froze. Voices rang out at the end of the tunnel. If someone were to look in now the weasel would be utterly trapped. Texas held her breath, not daring to make a sound and hoping fiercely for the voices to leave. Eventually they passed on and the weasel crawled through the tunnel.

The tunnel entrance was concealed by a large stockpile of crates, letting the weasel slip into the cavernous chamber undetected. She peeked over one of the crates and with a relieved smile saw April, chained to the wall. Her deputy looked haggard and exhausted, no doubt a result of Molly's cruelty, but she was still alive. On the far wall was a grim reminder of how lucky the red fox had been. Dozens of revolvers and badges from sheriffs and deputies, collected by Molly after she took them out. Not wanting their badges to join that collection, the weasel looked around for any guards. The large chamber appeared to be empty save for her and April.

Texas didn't waste another second and scurried towards her deputy.

Surely It Can't Be This Easy?
