She's too embarrassed

You look steadily at Tamara offering her the first chance to explain, but the pretty blonde stares at her feet with fierce concentration. After a few seconds of silence you decide to answer Ms. Naylor's questioning gaze.

"I found Ms. Longmire masturbating in one of the classrooms." You make no attempt to sugar coat the offense, "she was laying across the teacher's desk with her leggings pulled down and her hands between her thighs moaning like a cat in heat." You watch Ms. Naylor react first with shock and then what might best be described as a mixture of disappointment and sadness.

"Is this true Tamara?" She asks in her clear calm voice.

"Yes, Ms. Naylor." The schoolgirl sniffs softly, "I'm sorry."

"Was anyone else involved?" Diana continues her gentle questioning.

"No Ma'am." She sniffles even louder, "none of my friends are here yet, I was just wandering around and started thinking about what it would be like to have a male teacher." Ms. Naylor looks at you significantly when she hears that last bit, this is no doubt in her mind evidence that you and your colleagues are going to be a source of problems, not a solution.

"Very well, Miss Longmire." Ms. Naylor walks behind her desk and retrieves a blank sheet of paper and a red-enamel pen. "The Court of Peers has not yet been convened for the school year but I am confident that they would expect a complete and thoughtful reflection." You watch in quiet assessment as Ms. Naylor goes about collecting the documentation needed for this infraction. "You may use Miss Holliday's desk, Tamara. I want a full reflection on what you did wrong. Be sure to think about why you fell short of the standards expected of our students; and don't forget to address how this conduct is detrimental to both you and the Academy. When you are done bring it back to me here and we will find some closure for this matter."

You watch the young woman take the pen and paper and saunter toward the outer office with that same swaying walk that makes it hard to ignore her figure.

"Thank you Mr. Hawkfeather for bringing this to my attention." That might or might not be a dismissal but instead of following Tamara through the door you wait for the door to close.

"What's going to happen to her?"

"She'll write the reflection. When I'm satisfied that she has addressed the key points we'll have the resolution ceremony, did you want to stay for the conclusion?"

"Wait, that's it?" You ask making no attempt to conceal the confusion and disapproval you feel as you begin to realize that the reflection is not part of the investigative process, but the actual punishment. "She writes a few paragraphs about what she did wrong and then it's over?"

"Yes, Mr. Hawkfeather." Ms. Naylor shakes her head sadly at you, "We have learnt that helping students understand why they did what they did and how their actions effect those around them is a far more effective way to bring about real change in their behavior."

"Really?" You challenge the Headmistress' claim. "If I looked through all these reflections, how many of the students will I find with page after page of similar infractions."

"Well first of all, that's impossible." Ms. Naylor smiles kindly at you like you are a lost little boy, "As part of the healing process we burn the reflections in that basin," she points to a silver bowl darkened with soot, "that's the resolution ceremony. It brings closure to the whole situation."
