Chapter 4
by
Nanking
What's next?
She's rehearsing for a big show.
Music blared throughout the newly constructed Seoul Arena. Beams of light from Multicolored spotlights and lasers blasted through the air like a giant lightsaber fight. The stage was covered in a thick mist of fog obscuring the view of anyone watching. As the music reached a crescendo, a dolly elevator rose from underneath the stage. Onlookers could suddenly see a shadow standing on stage behind the smoke. Then with a blast of crystalline, cold air the smokescreen was pushed back, and Luna Snow appeared on stage, her short monochrome hair blowing in the breeze. Ice particles danced around her as she posed in her iconic crop top, short shorts, and cropped button down. The crowd went wild, or at least they would have if there was a crowd.
"Looking good Luna," the static voice of her manager came over the speakers. She was standing in the third row with a few of her staffers who made up Luna's full audience this evening. Her voice was stiff and professional having high energy was Luna's job not hers. She wore a grey pants suit and a pair of square glasses. Her hair was tied in a bun behind her head. It seemed she wanted her clothes to match her attitude "Now let's get to work on that choreography."
With nothing but a small nod, Luna shifted her posture, took a deep breath and started dancing. A recording of her song playing over the speakers as she followed the beat and listened to her own words to guide her through the dance moves. Her arms moved from side to side or up and down with fluid motions while her legs took ornate steps and quick slides across the stage sometimes doing elegant spins or jumping up into the air like a ballerina. Her hips never stopped shaking as she danced around the stage non-stop for nearly two hours. When it was finally over, Luna struck her victory pose her breathing was haggard and intense. This was a lot for her first on stage rehearsal. She had drilled all the moves in the studio over and over but doing them all at once so soon was tough, but that was too be expected. Ms. Ji-woo, the only member of her audience not currently clapping and cheering, was one of the toughest managers in the business.
"That was good for a first run." Ji-woo said with a slight smile. Luna instantly tensed up. Ji-woo never smiled. "Of course I don't deal in good I deal in great. So, lets run it again."
Luna sighed and returned to her starting position while the music was wound back up. She took another deep breath, but this time it felt tougher, like her lungs themselves were too exhausted to pump air. While not bereft of enemy, Luna was certainly tired out. Doing her full 2-hour routine again without a break might actually push her over the limit. Still, she had to do it. No one said the idol industry was a cake walk after all. Once again Luna's song played over the speakers and the idol danced like nothing was wrong.
