She's on Time

"Can't be late, can't be late, can't be late!" Roberta "Bobbi" Candero muttered to herself over and over and over again. She had showered and was now wearing a bathrobe and just finished her make-up. She prided herself on doing her hair and make-up perfectly, and she was especially proud her of her thick, dark brown, bouncy hair. Sure, she preferred a retro bob cut, and some people had the nerve to tell her it was "out of style," but she thought it made her look distinctive.

"Can't be late, can't be late, can't be late..." She knew if she was late to work again, she could get fired as the head waitress had threatened her. Bobbi worked at a cafe in the business district with a high class clientele of lawyers, businesspeople, and other wealthy patrons.

She took a long time to get hair to look perfect then put her blouse on. "Fuck!" she saw the time. She quickly put her shoes and socks on then put her apron on to save time. She lived in small flat on the edge of the business district where residential buildings started. She quickly walked the five blocks to work.

Bobbi arrived on time. The head waitress saw her and smiled. She told Bobbi what section she was working then went back to examining the schedule and reservation list.

Bobbi stashed her purse in the employee nook in the back. She heard her fellow wait staff giggling and looked over her shoulder. "What?"

"Nothing."

"Hmph."

Bobbie stocked her apron with napkins and straws, grabbed her order pad and went to wait on her first customers.

After taking their drink order, she turned to walk to the drink station. She heard the men whispering and turned to see them smiling at her. "We love your hair!" said one.

"Thanks!" Bobbie lifted her hair playfully and let it fall. She swayed as she walked so her hair swayed. She even heard a phone camera "click," and figured the men were taking a photo of her lovely bob.
