She's ok. Sort of.

Sam turned to him with a worried expression on her face. "Am I ok?"

"I was about to ask you the same thing. How do you feel?"

She frowned. "Really worried. Like, I don't know if I'm alright but I really hope I am."

At this point all he wanted was to know that she wasn't harmed in anyway. Fortunately, she smiled at him and said, "You know what? I think I'm ok." She brushed a strand of hair out of her face and turned back to his desk.

"What was that thing? Man, that was dangerous. I shouldn't just go through your stuff like that."

Jake was stunned. In over a decade of friendship, he'd never heard her say anything like that. Suddenly Sam looked like she'd been slapped. "Wait, what did I just say?" She started to panic. "I think maybe there's something wrong with me after all."

Jake was rapidly reaching the same conclusion. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down. It seemed to have a positive effect on Sam.

"Should we call 911?" she asked as she pulled out her phone.

He had had the same thought, but he wanted to wait until they knew what they were dealing with. He couldn't exactly say she was blasted with a mystery egg. She slid the phone back into her pocket and said, "We need to figure this out before getting the authorities involved."

Something about her behavior seemed really off. He didn't know what was going on, but something was wrong. "Sam, can you clearly explain to me how you feel right now?"

She sighed. "It's weird, I feel like... not me. It's like I'm still thinking and acting, but it's coming from somewhere else. It's really hard to explain! I don't think I have brain damage or anything. It's like everything in my head is coming from somewhere else. God, I'm so confused! This makes no sense!" She balled her fists angrily.

"Hey, hey, calm down. It's gonna be ok." The last thing they needed was a freakout.

"You're right." she said, suddenly calm.

"Let's just take a minute and try to think this through."

They sat in silence for a minute. Jake was eyeing Sam apprehensively. The mood swings, the uncharacteristic behavior - something was really wrong with her. Her rambling explanation didn't make any sense and just worried him more. Ironically, whenever he'd faced a situation like this in the past, he turned to Sam for help. He wished she would just act like her old self again for a minute.

"Hey man, don't worry about this." she said suddenly. "We'll figure it out."

And like that, it seemed like the old Sam was back. She was smiling brightly again. Even her body language was back to normal. It was as if-

"Oh my God..." she said softly, a look of horror dawning on her face.

Jake looked down at his hands, praying that his hunch was incorrect. He heard a muffled sob and looked up to see Sam covering her mouth with her hand, tears in her eyes.

"It's... it's you." She stared at him in disbelief. "All of these thoughts and feelings... they're coming from you."
