She's eager, but has reservations...

"Gaius, I - yes! Of course! I've never been so honored!" She seizes your hands and kisses them, blushing furiously. Looking back to you, she stammers, "A-are you sure about this? I'm not a noble girl, I - I'm a simple man's daughter from the countryside. Surely you should marry someone more - "

" - political?" You shake your head, grinning. "I'd thought of it. But who cares about that, Albina? I think the most important thing in a wife is someone I can trust, and someone whose dreams are aligned with mine. That's you."

"Yes..." Her eyes fall for a second, then she looks back at you. More seriously, she asks, "Gaius...where will we live?"

You raise an eyebrow in surprise. "Well, Rome, I'd thought. My house is there. Though this is the family estate, I've not lived on it for many years. Neither had my father before his ****, for that matter..."

"Yes." Albina's eyes are downcast, thoughtful.

"What is it?" you ask after a few moments.

"It's - well. It's just that I'm a simple girl, Gaius. And I've never wanted to be a fancy Roman lady. All I've ever wanted, really, as to live here - or somewhere like here - with wide-open skies and good earth and growing things. To live here...with a husband who loves me.{if Adolphus Dead = True} Now that my father has died for this land, I feel all the more connected to it.{endif}" She looks back up at you. "Do you think...would you consider staying here, Gaius, and making our home here? I know that it's not what you dreamed, and my answer is yes either way, but..."

You frown thoughtfully, considering, as she looks at you with pleading eyes. It's not what you'd imagined your life being - it will be hard, if not impossible, to pursue your ambitions from this place, a backwater country farm. But then...would that really be so bad? It could be a pretty good life here, with Albina to love you and eventually children to help run the estate.

But it won't lead you to greatness in Rome, that's for sure.
