Shame

Naoto sputtered for almost an entire minute, trying to come up with some way out of the situation. Finally concluding there was none, she took a deep breath to try to compose herself--though it did nothing to reduce her blush, even as she hastily shoved my boxers back where she'd found them.

"I...uh...I'm s-sorry, John," she murmured, looking quite downcast. "I'll, uh, I'll just get out of your hair right away." She moved to slip out the door, but I gently caught hold of her by the shoulders.

"Hold your horses there!" I exclaimed. "I never said you had to do anything of the kind. I just want you to be honest with me. We're going to be working closely together, which means we need to be able to trust each other completely. Besides, if you don't learn to be comfortable with yourself, it's going to affect your work, whether you're here or anywhere else. Trying to keep secrets can be distracting...and as detectives, our job is to find the truth, not to conceal it."
