Chapter 46 by Wolf13
What's next?
Settling Dorothy Pt 2
"Actually," Dorothy said. "Is my old position open and available?"
Both Tink and Harley blinked. "Dave's "assistant"?" Tink asked. "He technically doesn't have one... though I guess that's kinda been mine and Harley's roles as his "caretakers"..."
"You know he's not a "negotiator" and Pepper, our AI, takes care of a lot of those functions," Harley added. "But... I see her point. We'll have to think about that one, ok?"
"Understood," Dorothy said. "We'll discuss it further another time. In the meantime I will act as a "Head Maid" or a "Butler" until we settle the positions."
Tink's wings flutter excitedly. "Oh! Can you picture Melfina as a maid and Dorothy as a Butler?! Maybe we should get Dorothy a Butler's uniform!"
Harley nodded. "And we have two more maids coming. Well one will be in charge of security once we get her finished and then trained up... lots more to think about. I... dunno how I feel about "retiring" as Dave's personal caretaker, ya know..."
Tink nodded and hugged her. "That's how I felt when you joined us at first... and I'm totally glad we share him now... but I'm not ready to give that up either yet and I've been doing it since he was little. Let's take our time and not decide anything rashly... besides that's Dave's decision to make too."
Harley nodded as they lead Dorothy inside to the music room. Dave was already there waiting. Hilda was blushing with her head in his lap as he recites her poetry while rain falls outside but she looked very happy and much recovered.
"Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov'd,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved."
"Very pretty," Hilda said. "Does that mean what I think it does?"
Dave nods. "That nothing can come between true lovers and that such a love is a permanent and unending state," he strokes her hair. "Not too bad?"
"I rather liked that," she said happily.
"See," Tink said. "A Romantic, just like we said."
Hilda blushed realizing they had an audience and sat up. Dave though only chuckled and, after kissing her cheek, stood up. "You kept me waiting."
Harley shrugged and sat next to Hilda. "Lots to show and tell. Gotta save the best for last."
Dave smirked and bowed. "Thanks for that."
Tink took Dorothy's hand and lead her to the covered furniture. "Another gift."
"From all of you?" She asked.
Tink shook her head. "No, this one's just from Dave."
"For you, Dorothy," he said.
"Oh, my... a sheet. You really shouldn't have gone to the trouble, David," Dorothy said.
He smiled though. "Not the sheet." He pulled it off revealing Dorothy's piano. "It's perfectly tuned and ready for you to play at anytime. The room is quite soundproofed but I like music. With the doors open and Pepper amplifying and relaying it the music can be heard throughout."
Dorothy blinked. She reached out her hand to lovingly touch the piano. "I can have this too?"
Dave nodded. "Of course. What good is your piano without you to play it? And I can't fathom a reason someone would get a R. Dorothy Wayneright and not her piano."
"Except for the obvious one," Harley Snickered. "He'll smash it with a hammer in days." But she was surprised when Dave shook his finger at her.
"There'll be none of that. I want precisely what you're thinking. It was one of the things I had been thinking about when I picked Dorothy," he stared at Harley. "You have always struggled waking up and I have gotten into a bad habit myself. Hilda made me realize it again myself this morning reinforing my decision. As much as I appreciate sleeping in from now on that's going to only happen on weekends and maybe once a week. I'm thinking on Sunday's. That will allow us to do what's really important. Spend more time with each other. Dorothy will be in charge of waking us up." He turned to Dorothy. "If she agrees, that is?"
"What?" Harley asked.
"I agree," saud Dorothy quickly and seriously. "And I thank you, David. Maybe you're not so bad after all."
"WHAT?!" Harley repeated herself. "Have you gone masochistic?! You... you-"
"It's your own fault, Harls," Tink said crossing her arms. "We've all got better things we could be doing then forcing you two awake. Dave made a wise decision yet again."
"I'm glad my advice was helpful in your coming to this decision," Hilda said smiling.
Dave took Dorothy's hands. "And as long as it doesn't interfere with your duties and the quiet needs for everyone are maintained you may play as much as you like, as often as you like." He kissed her hands. "I'm actually quite looking forward to it."
Dorothy nodded. "Dispite the fact you have once again touched and placed your lips unasked for upon my hands I shall give you permission because of how grand your gift is and you are trying to be gentleman. May I play something now, Master David Stark?"
Dave smiled. She really was pleased... and she liked him touching and kissing her hands and have him 'permission' to do so. She'd also acknowledged him as her "Master". He let go of her hands. "I'd be very pleased if you did, R. Dorothy Wayneright."
The corners of Dorothy's lips twitched into the barest hint of what someone might call a smile. "I suppose I'll do it anyway."
She sat down and looked over the sheet music. It was actualy a device setup like the tablets. It contained a large number of songs and, through Pepper, could look virtually any others. She nodded finding one that fit as Dave took his seat and started Playing Chopin's Raindrop-Prelude to go with the accompaniment of the rain falling outside.
No one moves or says anything except for Melfina who quickly joins them from the kitchen taking her seat. Dorothy plays the piece perfectly and with emotion. The beautiful proformance captures them all.
Dave softly clapped and the others join in hesitant to break the quiet spell the song had cast but eager to express their appreciation for it. "That was extremely beautiful," Dave said. "Well done. Thank you, Dorothy."
The others all express similar sentiments equally impressed. Dorothy courtsied. "Thank you all for all the thoughtful gifts."
They all smiled. "Welcome home, Dorothy."
"Dinner won't be ready for a little while yet," Melfina said.
Dave smiled. "Thanks, Melfina. I need to hit the gym and then I'll give you hand finishing up, alright? You ladies have fun."
Tink grinned. "Good. We need to order Dorothy more clothes and outfits anyway. Ladies to the media room!"
Harley smiles. "Oh good! I missed out on the fun earlier! Let's go!"
