Send a text message to Eloise

When I got home, I kissed my wife hello and stuck my head into my son's room to tell him hello. He was playing Madden, as usual. "Hey, bud, how was school today?"

"Fine," he said, his voice monotone and his eyes glued to the screen."

"You want to do anything tonight? Play some golf on the Xbox? Watch some TV?"

"I don't know," he answered. His way of saying that he MIGHT be open to hanging out if I came up with a better idea.

"Well, let me know, I'll be downstairs with your mom." I headed back downstairs to listen to my wife's rendition of how wronged she had been at work during the day. Don't get me wrong, her manager and assistant manager do treat her and her coworkers like garbage. I know she is depressed, so that doesn't help, but she doesn't put in the effort to look for another job, nor does she follow the advice of her therapist as to how to deal with her issues on an emotional level. She is like so many others, trapped in a place where she hates her life but seemingly unable to do anything to change what she hates about her life, or about herself.

After she was done going over her day, we had a bit of dinner and watched a bit of TV. Around 8:30 she got up. "Sorry, honey, I can't stay up another minute, I'm exhausted. I love you, see you tomorrow." We kissed good night and she headed upstairs.

Frustrated and lonely, I pulled out my phone and sent a text to Eloise. "Hey, what are you doing?"

Within seconds, she replied. "Not much, just watching Dexter. Ever seen it?"

I hadn't, and told her as much. I asked her what it was about and she gave me a couple details. I pulled it up on my laptop and watched a free episode on the show's website, texting Eloise periodically.
