Selina is being hunted

Chapter 101 by Colleem Colleem

Selina's world had changed fundamentally within that time. She did not remember the last week very well. It was like a strange flush and everything was in a fog. There were always gaps in her memory but she blamed these gaps on her newly gained ability. She was sitting on the roof of an old church in Gotham looking at the city beneath her. She was still amazed at her new senses. She was almost 200 meters above the streets and yet she couldn't just see the people. It was as if they were no more than 10 metres away. She could see every detail of her clothes from up here. It was unbelievable. But her perception was only one of the new beautiful advantages. She looked to the horizon where she could clearly see the flaming ring. Even after such a long time it was still blazing. There seemed to be no remedy against him. The fire brigade was always busy extinguishing it but for Selina it was a waste of time. At least this fire burned even on the water. How could you hope to extinguish it with water?

Selina could feel the wind blowing around her and even this banal sensation was completely different today. Much more intense. A look to the sky showed her how the moon broke through the clouds. Half of the moon was clearly visible and bathed the whole city in a beautiful light. Slowly she straightened up and stretched out. She enjoyed it as the darkness and the light of the moon pulled over the city and herself. Unfortunately, this moment lasted only a few minutes as the clouds pushed inexorably in front of the moon. Selina turned her head to look around. It literally smelled like rain. But it was a pleasant smell. He had something salty she had never noticed before.

She just stood there and looked around. She had so much to learn, so much to understand. Everything had simply changed. But she was not alone. Umbra and Bastet were at her side. She sighed. She had imagined it all differently. But it could have been worse. A shred of memory came to her mind. She remembered a conversation with Umbra and Bastet. The two Wer cats were incredibly beautiful and wise. Gentle and delicate. They had explained to her that she had been bitten by Umbra and that Selina was the mother of Bastet. Something about this statement seemed strange but she had accepted it. She pushed that thought away. It was also much more about Umbra telling her what they were.

Selina had listened carefully. That the wer-cats had already walked across the world before an unimaginably long time. They were a separate species next to the werewolves that served a higher power called Umbra. Selina had asked Umbra why he had the same name, but he assured her that this did not mean that he was the Umbra. However, the Umbra had a great plan, a plan for which she had to recreate the race of Wer cats. Thanks to the help of an enlightened person, he himself had been illuminated. He had received wisdom and willpower. Also the Umbra's desire for peace. Selina was no longer angry with him about what he had done to her. At least it wasn't as bad as she had thought. The biggest difference between the werewolves and the Wercats was that the Wercats had never fallen prey to the curse of madness as it had happened with the wolves. Selina had tried to find out what the reason for it was but Umbra didn't know the reason. He might have been imbued with the wisdom of Umbra but was not omniscient. However, Selina intended to find out. Both breeds were too similar to not arouse her curiosity.

Unfortunately she still had no exact idea how or in which direction she should research. Her old apartment had become a field of debris. Within a week her beautiful apartment had become a battlefield. Not only that there were 3 were-cats running around, that would be one thing she could live with, but there were also 7 more younger were-cats. Every time she tried to remember where they had come from, her thoughts were lost in vanities. It was as if she could not grasp and keep this thought. But the newborns seemed to grow extremely fast. And that's why she was out here today, among other things. She and Bastet were looking for a new home. Umbra had stayed at home to supervise the rearing of the young. Selina laughed at the thought of the 7. She jokingly called them the Seven Sins.

But all these thoughts had only distracted them from their task. They needed a place to live. In a good mood she stretched her body and sprung up and down a little on the roof to loosen me up. Then she ran off. First on 2 legs until she had enough speed, then she went on to run on all fours. At the edge of the roof her claws drilled into the stone and her strong hind legs catapulted her into the air. With her arms stretched wide, Selina enjoyed the feeling of Absolute Freedom as she glided through the air. The wind was burning in her eyes as she reached the apex, pressing her arms and legs against her body to gain control of the fall. Only at the last moment did she change her posture and hit with all fours on an opposite roof. The jerk of the landing went through her whole body and yet the landing was over without injuries. She straightened up and looked back.

More than 30 meters wide and at least 80 meters free fall... This landing should have killed her and yet she stood here squeaky happy. She had never imagined what it would mean to have superhuman powers, now she knew. Her tail waved vigorously back and forth and expressed her outstanding mood. Her black fur shimmered in the darkness and her eyes were wide open due to the low light. Her stature was much more feminine than that of a werewolf or even a male representative of her own kind. She would also have had a problem with it if it had been different. She was always proud of her body. The thought that she had become a muscle-bound giant was simply disgusting for her.

Umbra and Bastet just couldn't understand this part of her. While Bastet did have a human figure, she couldn't remember that she had seen Umbra differently than his cat Form. Selina, however, still preferred to walk around as a human woman. Firstly, she had invested most of her fortune in clothing and secondly, she was born that way. That night, however, she had decided to be out in her new shape. So she was simply faster and could cover a larger area. She felt Umbra's urge and was willing to help him as far as she could.

Despite all her fine senses, all her experience and all the skill she had, she was not aware that she was being watched. As if that wasn't embarrassing enough already, it wasn't one person watching her, but three.

The first person who secretly followed the catlike creature was Huntress. Like Batman, she was not willing to give up this city. She had rather come across this new creature by accident. This beast resembled one of the werewolves that roamed the city, but clearly had more resemblance to a panther than to a wolf. It was clearly female and damn fast. Huntress had watched the creature jump and was quite impressed. She had noticed how Bruce had captured the werewolves and took to follow in front of this new creature. If she was right, this new monster would lead her directly to a hiding place of the monsters.

While Helen tried to keep up with the creature, the experienced heroine didn't notice that there were 2 more pairs of eyes on them. One of the two other observers stood a few hundred meters away from the event and his gaze wandered between all three parties. The first thing he had discovered was Selina landing on the roof with an elegant jump from the church. Here his eyes had helped him and his extremely fine hearing. No matter how quietly she landed, nothing had escaped his ears. The 2. person he had recognized by the smell. To his luck all 3 parties were so positioned that the wind was favorable for him. Otherwise he would never have noticed the third person. But at the moment his gaze was more on Huntress. While this new creature, which resembled a cat, was already on its way, Huntress tried to stay on it. He growled throatily and deeply as 2 more werewolves rose behind him. At a hint from him, the werewolves dashed off and another 4 wolves joined the 2. Lightning fast the pack ran from roof to roof to catch Huntress. The new creature didn't matter to her alpha for now. But Huntress would not only be an extraordinary companion, but would also hit Batman massively.

But the smell of the third creature irritated him. This creature somehow smelled wrong. The word that came to his mind the most about this smell was that of a laboratory. He knew this smell very well. And yet there was still something in the smell. It smelled like... something he could not assign. Something that irritated him. Then it was suddenly gone. Nothing could leave so quickly. He pricked up his ears and strained his eyes but he could neither pick up the trail nor see anything. Like a dark shadow the huge mass of him jumped over the roofs. He completely lacked the elegance of Selina. Wherever he landed, the ground beneath him broke open. When he reached the point where he had noticed this new smell, he couldn't detect anything but a few scales lying on the ground.

He went over the roof and looked everywhere. Here the smell was particularly strong and yet he couldn't find a trace of where the creature had gone. It was as if it had simply vanished into thin air. He straightened up on his hind paws and looked in all directions. About a dozen werewolves stood around her alpha and yet they worked almost tiny against him. He surpassed a werewolf many times over.

"We can't stay here! We're not ready yet," he growled angrily. He was aware that he had to gather his strength before he could compete with Batman and this strange monster at his side. Also, there was still the creature that Killer Croc had killed. Nobody knew exactly who that was. Many thought it was Superman, but he didn't kill anyone.

The other werewolves around him growled and howled at their alpha and fought constantly for his attention and followed their alpha as it disappeared into the sewers. Soon every trace of them had disappeared into the stench of the sewer.
