Self indulgent mind control with a dash of plot

A few hours later the two of them exited the phone store with a replacement for Mina's destroyed one. Naturally she had paid a grand total of zero dollars for it, on the basis that the double teaming she and Abby had given the attractive middle aged lady running the store was well worth the price. "Now I just need a new moped," Mina griped as they walked down the sidewalk.

"Don't you want to upgrade to a car or something?" Abby asked as Mina steered her body around a bike rack. She was still nervous being controlled like this out in the open, though considerably less so after the demonstration in the diner. "I mean, you can just go into any dealership and just have them fork over the keys now."

"Eh, I prefer the mobility and gas mileage of a moped. I really don't do much driving," Mina waved her off as she handled the controller. "Plus I'm ok stealing a few little things here and there if it isn't from like a struggling small business, but a car is a bit...conspicuous."

They were making their way towards the site of the accident. Mina wanted to get another look at it in the daylight, to see if there would be anything that could teach her more about her powers. She half expected it to have vanished, like in some horror movie, and was mildly surprised to find the scene largely as she left it. The wrecked moped had been cleared away already, but the cairn was still where it had fallen.

The geode had changed though. When Mina knelt down to peer into the crack, she was surprised to see the purple crystals were now an ashen grey, and the hum of power was silent. She didn't study it for long however. Even as she watched, the geode was slowly crumbling in on itself as the rock disintegrated at an unnatural speed. She fell into a coughing fit as dust billowed out of the crack, sending her scrambling backwards into the grass.

"Well that sucks," Abby remarked, but Mina wasn't paying attention to her. She was suddenly feeling very strange. Haunted. Hunted. The swirling ash cloud moved oddly in the air, forming vague shapes that collapsed into one another like lapping waves. Through it all was the unmistakable outline of a feminine form, achingly familiar, reaching out towards her, then it was gone as a breeze tore through the cloud and dispersed it.

Mina stood up slowly, feeling an odd sense of loss as the stone dissolved into sediment. "I guess that's that," she said, turning towards Abby. As they departed, neither of them noticed the woman in a parked car watching them leave with cold eyes.
