Chapter 46 by Shandy Shandy

Dinner?

Seeing the town

You get into the cab and Brian asks the driver for a restaurant recommendation. The driver looks over his shoulder, evaluating both of you.

"You want pizza, or burgers or something? Or something fancy?"

"Drive into town," you say. "If we see something we like we'll stop."

"It's your dime," the driver says with a shrug, putting the cab into gear.

You hadn't paid a lot of attention to the town when you arrived by bus and then took a cab to the school. You sit back in the cab and enjoy the drive and the scenary. Once the cab leaves the ivy-covered brick wall surrounding the school grounds you start to see houses along the curving drive. The houses are all big, old and well maintained almost reeking of old money.

The cab turns past a stately railroad station onto Main street. A white church with a tall belltower overlooks the centre of town from small hill at the far end of the main drag. There are a collection of expensive looking restaurants on both sides of the boulevard and you see several well dressed couples with teenage daughters walking in and out of these establishments. You have little doubt that many of the families will be dropping off these young women at the Pink Rose later tonight or tomorrow.

"You want one of these?" the cabbie asks. "They're kinda pricey most of them. The cheaper joints are on the other side of town."

What do you say? Get out here or go to the cheaper joints.
