Chapter 103 by landmaster1234

What does Hermione do this afternoon?

See if the Room of Requirement works

Hermione went up the stairs as fast as she could. She was out of breath, sweat glistening all over her body, by the time she had reached the blank stretch of wall on the seventh floor.

This would require some testing. The first thing she decided to do was see if the room for hiding objects still existed. She closed her eyes and began to repeat in her head. "I need to find where things are hidden. I need to find where things are hidden. I need to find where things are hidden."

When she opened them, she could see the great doors, but they were now singed around the edges. Through the cracks in the door, she could smell the smoke, soot, and ash that existed on the other side. Curious, Hermione opened the door. The inside of the room was now empty, save for enormous piles of ashes. The fiendfyre had evidently died out over the year, but nothing else was there. Hermione had to stifle a scream when, in a corner of the room, she could see Crabbe's skeleton, charred black from his own spell.

Well... This meant the room at least worked somewhat. Hermione closed the door and began to think again. "I need a place to practice defense against the dark arts..." After repeating this several times, she opened the door again. Inside was the DA room, but it too was burned. Not quite as badly as the other room, of course, as furniture was still there and functional, but it did look as if the fire had spread to all the different forms the room could take.

Before she went in, however, Hermione wanted to test one more possible room... Closing the door again, she concentrated as hard as she could... "I need to find clothes... Clothes that I would be allowed to wear once term starts..." Once again, Hermione opened the door...

The inside looked like a fire had taken a robe shop. She could see singed remains of robes that were damaged. She went into the room, closing the door behind her, and held the different robes up to her body. Many of them were frayed in such a way that they'd show off her body, but others still weren't quite as burned. Sure, they certainly looked damaged, and given how they were burned, it would be beyond magical repair, but they'd at least cover her... There at least was underwear available to her, and some simple robes that wouldn't look out of place if she had to walk down Diagon Alley, even if they were singed.

As she looked around, however, there were no Hogwarts robes to be found. She didn't know if that was just something the room couldn't do, or if that was another side effect of the fiendfyre. Instead, she'd have to rely on Ginny to lend her old robes.

Seeing as she didn't have her bag on her, she'd have to come back later to pick up these clothes. She left the room to make it return to being the old DA room and got to work.

There weren't any cushions or books anymore, but the old training dummies were still useful to practice wandless magic on, at least...

Does anything of note happen during her practice?
