Chapter 15
by Jnightshade
What does morning bring?
Searching for Vess
You exit your room into the light. It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust. As you walk toward the bridge you see your reflection.
You look pale and excessively thin just like Illiana. You fingernails have grown long and sharp. You smile at their elegance and notice your canines, your fangs, have grown long and sharp.
You strut o to the bridge hoping none of the others will notice your appearance. You spot Rachel and smile. She looks quite sickly as well and her darkness has grown.
You go to Markus and he hugs you with his uncomfortably warm arms. Ordinarily he would notice changes in your appearance, but now he seems to caught up in his own mind.
Devon moves to the front. “We need to find Vess and retrieve the weapon or we’re all in grave danger. I put together some spacesuits. We should go outside after him.”
You grin. Outside sounds lovely.
“I volunteer.” You say firmly.
“Ok, we just need two more volunteers.”
Markus looks at you. “I volunteer.”
Before Devon can say anything. The blond, Tawny, chimes in. “I want to go.”
“Ok the three of you get in suits. I’m going to get you sun weapons.”
The three of you begin to dress. You stifle a laugh. You don’t need the suit anymore and it’s so encumbering. You can’t wait to slip out of it.
The three of you finish and head to the airlock. Devin hands you each a stun gun. Inside your suit you don’t have to stifle your laugh. Vess is darkness itself. You might as well be trying to stun your shadow.
The inner airlock door closes. There is a hiss.
Markus looks at you.
“You ready?”
You nod. Ready and eager.
What awaits you outside?
