Chapter 7 by Darth_Halford Darth_Halford

How do you begin your search?

Search for clues

Still within the city of Letia, you begin your search for the missing Archdeacon, Fergus Doolyn. His disappearance is not yet public knowledge, so you come tome to be the harbinger of bad omens. You keep his capture a secret, as well as the monsters involved, so as to not frighten the public. 'A lie will travel the world before the truth can put it's boots on' The Archdeacon would say, and talk of monsters stealing a priest from his home in the middle of the night, never to be seen again would quickly grow in the telling and turn into a panic or frenzy come nightfall. Given his position, Fergus was a well known and figure, and you have a lot of prospects to inquire, to see if anyone has seen or heard from him. None of them bear fruit, as none of the people you think to ask knew him in his younger adventuring years while he still had use of both of his legs, bug you get a few tips for some who might have more knowledge.

You meet an venerable old shopkeep who believes he knows someone.
"ArchDeacon Doolyn? Rotten shame that he's disappeared like that. Afraid I don't know anything about that miss, but I can betcha I know someone who needs to know that information. Tomas Samgritch. Runs a forge and outfitters near the edge of town, or at least did before he handed it over to his son. Was Doolyn's first real friend in the city, or so I heard told. Used to share a Saturday breakfast every week together. Course, that was many years ago, long before he became the Archdeacon of your church. Sorry I couldn't be more help than that, miss."

The Archdeacon was a well known bookworm, and you decide to check out the city's private library that he was privy too.
"Quite surprised to hear that he's gone off like that. I'll miss the old man, was one of our most frequent and distinguished guests. There's more than a few of our subscribing patrons who came here solely because of the Archdeacon's patronage and recommendations. He was always happy to see everyone. Never met a stranger. He even was able to charm that wizard that lives outside the city. There were a few times they happened to be here at the same time, the Archdeacon was the only person that old hermit enjoyed to see. Hate to say it, but I've eavesdropped on them once or twice, sounded like they were reminiscing about the old days. Sounded like they were in some pitched conflict or battle way back when. That doesn't sound anything like the peaceful Archdeacon we all know, but who knows what he used to be like as a young man?"

You hear a seemingly incredulous story from the owner of a small restaurant the Archdeacon was fond of visiting when the occasion permitted
"I hadn't seen Fergus here in a long time. Sad that I won't be seeing him again anytime soon. I hope you find him. He was a good man. Sure seemed to like his routine, and was a man of consistent taste. Would always order the same cut of beef, damned near still alive it was so rare, along with a bowl of stew and yesterday's bread, a potato and a white wine. Always came in for dinner around the new moon. Come to think of it, I can think of someone you may want to tell about it. He always ate with this old flame of his. Or at least, I think they were an item back in the day. The way they looked and talked to each other, they clearly loved each other, or at least used to. She's a Palladin, part of the Watch of the Pure Flame. I'd be careful if you head up that way. They aren't as welcome to guests and outsiders as you Phoenicans are, and I don't know how they'll react to a lady like yourself, what with the horns and all.

Along the way, you overhear some of the city residents talking pleadingly with the city guards. Apparently, they saw some monsters through the course of the night, near the cathedral. You can't catch what they looked like, but they tell the guard they saw three of them trying to leave the city, heading south.

What lead do you decide to follow up on?
