Chapter 4

What do you find on the bridge?
Scugg Bollox is closing fast!
The Velvet Hammer isn't a big ship and her bridge is just as retro-fitted, patched-up, and lived-in as the rest of her. Over the years your father, and then you, have fitted her out with plenty of specialty systems. Unfortunately, stealth rigging and sensor bafflers aren't going to work when you've already been caught. According to the readout, Scugg Bollox and his swollen ship are nearly on top of you.
"They're closing fast!" warns Teatro as you join your crew on the bridge. All of your crew are here except for your oranguman engineer, Goob, who is in the engine room.
"If they get a little bit closer," says Jen, your Amazonian weapons officer, "we can deploy short-range rockets and take out their engine cluster with the rapid-fire turrets."
"Their shields are formidable," observes Sypharra, your first officer.
"Nothing those rockets can't handle," Jen says conifdently and then looks to you. "Give me the go-ahead and I'll waste them."
Goob interjects, "I'm afraid we will have to divert engine power to feed the rapid-fire turrets. However, if I divert power from the forward shields and deactivate the laser batteries I believe I can give the ship enough power to make a break for it."
According to your sensor scans the Malevolent Bastard is a huge, Hulg-manufactured freighter upgraded with grapple beams, gun turrets, and improved engines. It seems quite fast, but you're confident your girl can out-run a wallowing pig like Bollox. The Velvet Hammer is a blockade runner, designed to out-run and out-maneuver Imperial frigates and swarms of fighters.
On the other hand, over the years you've had the Velvet Hammer upgraded with some hidden punch of her own in her gun turrets. Those rocket packs Jen is so eager to use are swarmer rockets designed to shred Imperial customs cutters or **** ships. Let them think you're defenseless and then at the last minute open fire at close range, destroy the Malevolent Bastard's grapple beams and take out their engines. Leave them as easy pickings for some pirates or Imperials to clean up. You smile at the thought of getting out from under Bollox once and for all.
