Jake's first-period class was science, and he was fast asleep, snoring softly, completely unaware that class was about to start. The room was quiet, except for the soft ticking of the clock on the wall and the occasional shuffle of papers from his classmates as they prepared for the day.

The bell would ring soon, signaling the start of another school day. Mrs. Carter, the science teacher, stood at the front of the room, flipping through her lesson plan, but her eyes kept drifting toward Jake. He was sprawled across his desk, his head nestled in his arms like he’d been up late studying—though, knowing Jake, it was more likely he'd been up late gaming.

She sighed and walked over to his desk, leaning down slightly. “Jake,” she said, her voice firm but not unkind. “Time to wake up. We’ve got a lot to cover today.”

Jake mumbled something unintelligible, his face still buried in his arms. Mrs. Carter raised an eyebrow. She knew he wasn’t the easiest student to wake up, but this was getting ridiculous.

“Jake!” she said again, in her mean and stern voice.

This time, he stirred, groaning softly. His eyes cracked open, squinting at the bright light overhead as if it was something from another planet.

“Five more minutes…” he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep.

Mrs. Carter crossed her arms, angrily. “You’ve got ten seconds. Either you wake up now, or I’ll make you write an essay on the scientific methods of mass.”

Jake blinked a few times, processing her words. He sat up with a start, his chair creaking under him. “Wait, what?!”

The rest of the class turned to look at him, some stifling laughter, like usual, they found his embarrassing moments funny.

Mrs. Carter’s smile grew a bit wider. “10 second… Jake… before we start. Try not to fall asleep again. This is the only warning I’m giving today!” She said angrily, walking back to the front of the room.

“Alright students… Today we are going to…” she began to write on the whiteboard with a shiny red marker.
