“Good.” The undercover Amazon returns those ridiculous glasses to her face. A slightly awkward moment passes while you try and **** your brain into gear. She looks around patiently, notices the patched wall. “I see they got my grand entranceway repaired swiftly,” she says conversationally.

“They did, only took a couple days. The city actually offer incentives to have damage repaired as quickly as possible after superhero fights and such. Otherwise the place would start to look like a war zone.” You say a silent prayer to any god that’s listening to please stop your jabbering before you start mansplaing the weather!

She gives a wry smile. “Say what you will about superhumans but we’re great for the construction industry.”

You’re not sure how much you’re supposed to laugh at that so you settle for a modest chuckle. “I’m glad you came.”

She shoots you a sideways look. “I swore that I would.”

“Oh I know. I realize you’re not here entirely by choice.” You **** yourself to meet her gaze. “But I’m still glad.”

Even through those hideous glasses, Wonder Woman’s deep blue eyes burn into you. “Work clothes” or not, this is one of the most powerful beings on the planet, and she has a legitimate axe to grind with you. Also a legitimate axe. And the only thing keeping you safe at this moment is an oath sworn on a magic rope. You are acutely aware of just how out of your league you’re playing, and a not-insignificant part of your brain wants to apologize and run away while you still can.

But you’re used to punching out of your weight class! You remind yourself you’ve already had this bitch at your mercy once and you’ll be damned if you’re going to flinch! You hold her gaze and after a long moment, you see something pass behind her eyes, perhaps a shadow of her previous helplessness at your hands. She doesn’t flinch per se, but she does blink and look away.

“Shall we be off? I assume you have a car?”
