Machiko pulled herself free of the strange woman's grasp. "That's very nice," she told the warrior, "But I am already betrothed to another."

Nanoko tried to put her arm around and Machiko and kiss her, but the princess gently but firmly pushed her away. But the warrior woman wouldn't give up.

"I've loved you ever since I first saw eyes on you," Nanoko said, taking Machiko's hand again and kissing it. "You mustn't spurn me! Run away with me to the mountains, I know you want to!"
