Chapter 9
by Storm Chyld
Sacrifice the girl and escape, or dash to the hall and guard her from the horde?
Save the girl
It was one thing to use her as an asset, or glorified pmd, it was another to just let her die. Whatever she was, she wasn't a threat to him. Dashing forward **** rifle in hand, he slid through the slime, on one knee, and lifted his gun to sight the stair well door.
Since he was at the top, they would come from the left, from somewhere below, he breathed deeply, and then let it out, going to that quiet place. The place filled with blood, and ****.
They came hurtling around the corner, just as the girl tried again to stand up. Pulling down on the trigger, his gun recoiled, firing bullet after bullet into the charging mass of dead.
The girl yelped covered her head, and fell again. Grant noted this dimly, as he focused on spraying the charging zombies. The first to fall, were shoved, thrown, and trampled as the horde fell over it self to get to them.
As Grant's rifle thundered, the door continued to belch forth the dead, to many to count, amidst the roar, and flame of his weapon. Some of the zombies began slipping through the spray, and ran down the sides of the hall.
Grant didn't try to get them, he concentrated on barraging the mass, getting as many of them as he could. As the last came through the door, only to get mowed down, he swiveled his gun to the left, where two zombies were rushing up the hall.
Pulling the trigger, he fired a short burst, causing the dead man's head to explode in a shower of blood. Grant felt the gun go dry, as he fired the last of his bullets. Two zombies were still up, running down each side of the hall to feast on their flesh.
Dropping the M16 he drew his pistol from its holster, lifted it up with both hands and fired into the woman on his right flank. Two through the chest, and one blew the back of her head out.
Before he could shoot the other, it barreled into him. Throwing up his arms, to keep it at bay, he felt its teeth clench down on his forearm with inhuman strength.
Slamming into the ground, he didn't hesitate, placing the gun to the zombies temple, and blowing its brains out. Kicking the body of the dead man off of him, grant sat up, looking at the carnage, ready for more.
The world was silent, the girl huddled, naked glancing around the hall, scared to ****. Wincing at the bite, Grant wondered if he too would turn, now that he had been bitten.
Suddenly the zombie girl was hovering over him, staring at the blood welling up from the bite. Grants eyes went wide, with surprise, and a little fear of what she was about to do.
Instead of biting him, she gently placed her hands over his arm, and squeezed firmly, placing pressure on his wound. Still holding his hand, she pressed gently into him, practically purring. She obviously felt safe next to him.
What should Grant do now?
