Chapter 4 by ChiefSkipper ChiefSkipper

Go it alone or save the dog?

Save the dog!

Renée couldn't just let the husky die, she was sick of being all alone, and she loved dogs. She pulled out a bottle of water she'd found in the kitchen and sat next to the poor thing. She lifted his head carefully and poured a bit of water in it's mouth, again and again. After it had drank the whole bottle, she got up and brought back a bowl of the dog food, and set it next to the dog. It lifted its head up a bit and slowly started munching some down. It seemed to have gained some energy back but it was still fairly weak. She gave it more food once it finished, and sat petting him as he ate. She sat there as the husky lay back down and she was worried it might have died, but thankfully he was still breathing, he was just sleeping and digesting the food.

She woke up some time later, having dozed off herself. She sat up and realized the husky wasn't next to her anymore, but was relieved when she noticed him sitting at her feet, staring up at her with an ear cocked. It looked like he'd gained some strength back, and she rubbed his head. "You're the first person, well dog, I've had to talk to since this all went to hell. What's your name boy?" He cocked his head to the other side, not seeming to understand, but before she repeated herself, she saw he was showing her his collar. She grabbed the tag and read it aloud. "Fenrir? That name sounds familiar, where have I heard it..." Fenrir started panting at hearing his name for the first time in months, and seemed to be waiting patiently for Renée.

She continued her search through the bedroom, finding some toothpaste and socks crammed into a grocery bag, and a pack of matches. She tossed it all into her backpack and grabbed a flashlight and batteries from the nightstand drawer. After loading her backpack, and grabbing the bag of dog food for Fenrir, she grabbed her pistol from her waist. "You ready boy? It's just a few steps down the hall and we'll be safe." As if to answer her, he stopped panting and turned to the door, and seemed to be preparing himself. She peered out the view hole to make sure there wasn't a group of futa's waiting, but it was empty and quiet. Fenrir nudged her hand and moved aside, and she unlocked the door and pulled it open as quietly as possible. Creeping into the hall, it was still empty and silent, so she pointed at her own door. Fenrir didn't move however, cocking his head and listening. He nudged her thigh in the direction of her door though and stood in front of her, trying to make her move.

After hearing a creak somewhere below, Renée realized Fenrir was trying to warn her that there was danger nearby. She padded backwards towards her apartment, gun at the ready, as the husky backed up, hairs standing up. She felt her door behind her and opened as quickly as she could, hearing the faint thump of a paperclip dropping, letting her know that the door hadn't been opened. She kept the door open as Fenrir turned and darted inside quick, and closed it as quietly as possible. She bolted the locked, and slide a few pieces of her barricade against it, before peering out the viewhole, before she covered it up, and her eye widened at the sight she saw.

What did Renée see in the hall?
