What do you tell Sarah?
Sarah, you're part of the family
I lean forward, catching Sarah's eyes with a steady look, the words forming easy on my tongue. "Sarah, if you need a family, we can be that for you." The offer lands soft but deliberate, laced with the weave's subtle pull, her gaze holding mine as color blooms in her cheeks.
Lily bursts out laughing, nearly knocking over her orange juice as she slaps the table. "Oh, we'll corrupt you real good, girl. Clubs till dawn, bad decisions that feel oh-so-right, the works. No more Netflix solitude for you." Her grin flashes wicked, blue eyes sparkling with that chaotic energy, the same spark that drew Emma so close last night on the dance floor. She stretches again, her foot hooking around my ankle under the table in casual possession. Her glance flicks to Sarah, assessing, inviting.
Emma chimes in with a nod, her hand still warm on my thigh, fingers drumming lightly. "She's not kidding. We're the best kind of trouble." Her voice carries that affectionate lilt, the one amplified by the app, making the room feel smaller, cozier, like a net drawing tight.
Sarah's laugh rings out, genuine and unguarded, her hand covering her mouth as she shakes her head. "You three, you're something else. I appreciate it, really. Crashing your morning like this, feeling wanted? It's been a while." She pauses, swirling the last of her eggs, her robe slipping open another inch at the knee, unnoticed or not. "I might take you up on that corruption. Salsa classes, clubs, who knows? Feels good to have options again." Her eyes meet mine once more, lingering with that simmering warmth, her lips curving in a shy smile. I feel the influence tick up in the app's quiet hum. 15% now, roots sinking deeper.
But then she glances at the clock above the stove, sighing as reality creeps in. "God, shift starts soon. Barista life waits for no one." She pushes back from the table, the chair scraping softly against the linoleum, and stands with a fluid grace that speaks to the night's ease lingering in her body. The robe clings to her curves for a moment as she ties it loosely, the dark red hair tumbling over her shoulder. "Thanks for breakfast. And... everything. Text me? About that family thing?" Her voice dips, inviting, as she gathers her forgotten mug from the counter.
I nod, rising to walk her to the door, Emma and Lily murmuring goodbyes behind us. At the threshold, Sarah turns, her hand brushing my arm in a fleeting touch that sends a spark through me. "See you soon," she says, the words carrying promise. The door clicks shut, leaving the apartment quieter, but charged. Lily's already plotting aloud about club outings, her envy from the night before softening into something collaborative, while Emma presses close, her breath hot against my neck. The app pulses in my pocket, Sarah's profile glowing with potential. The morning's just beginning, and the weave stretches further.
