Sarah's encounter leads to another

Arron was about to pull into the side street that led to their house when he noticed that his phone was ringing. Or, rather, it was Erin's old phone that was ringing. He had kidded himself that the reason he kept her phone was that it was the newer model of the three (it was, but he and Sarah knew better). Everything about it he kept the same, including the two-tone pink and soft white otterbox case with the flower strap to it. There were a few eye raises when he was using it at the beginning but they were easily consoled by the fact he was using his now dead wife's phone.

If he was observant, really observant, he would've began to piece the puzzle together: he was driving his wife's SUV, using her phone (And phone number too), wearing her yoga pants, and showering with his daughter's body wash and shampoo. That, coupled with the fact that the two women he met considered him to be a woman, the officer and the cashier addressed him as "ma'am"...that must have been a shock or two. That is, of course, if Arron wasn't otherwise occupied by the fact his phone was ringing.

And it was the police.

"Hello?"

"Is this Erin?"

Arron swerved a bit and missed that moment, quickly falling back onto his assumption that the name was Arron. "Yes, this is."

"This is Officer Patterson. Your daughter's car died out on the highway, we're getting ready to tow it to your house. Are you able to come and pick her up?" He paused for a moment. "She's okay."

Arron nodded and after getting the information from the officer, he turned back onto the highway and drove a few more miles until he spotted the sedan on the side of the road. Sarah was standing next to the car, her jacket a bit bunched up and more than slightly damp from standing out in the rain, but she still had her smile on her face and when she saw him approaching, waved. "Hey!"

Arron stepped out of the car and put the hood up before he approached the vehicle. "You okay?"

"Yeah, Officer Patterson came and helped me get off the road. The car just died on me, dunno why."

The police officer merely shrugged and then after nodding to him, turned and began to help the tow-truck driver hook up the car. "Should only be a few moments left."

Arron looked back at the SUV. "Why don't you take the SUV and head on home? I'll ride with the tow truck driver to let him know where we live."

Sarah nodded and after she pulled out, the officer came back to him. "The driver can drop you off at your house." Arron nodded and after thanking the officer, turned to the driver and offered his hand. "Arron."

The driver smiled and shook his hand gently but firmly. "Ted."
