Sapphic Symbiotic Space Slugs

Brittany popped a bag of popcorn into the microwave as the film loaded up and the opening credits ran. She sat down just in time to see a cheap special effect of a meteor streaking through the night sky as synthesizer music meant to sound spooky played in the background.

"Human beings thought we were alone in the universe. We were wrong. The meteor changed everything," a narrator intoned. "It seemed like such an ordinary night, but that simple streak of light marked the end of the world as we know it, and the beginning of--"

"Oh god, who writes this shit?" Brittany shouted at the TV set. "Get on with it!"

After stock-footage sound of an impact the scene cut to a forest clearing with a purplish metallic stone in a small impact crater, glowing at first with the heat of entry into the atmosphere and then fading into the reflection of moonlight. Loud rustling in the background indicated that someone was about to stumble across the maguffin.
