Samantha is taken to the kennel.

When the door slid shut behind the large robots, Pete and Tom stared at each other in shock.

"What now?" Pete asked, looking down at Samantha, who was still huddled in her covering of towels.

"The doors have been unsealed," the receptionist answered mechanically. "To make up for this incident, you have been upgraded to first-class accommodations for the rest of your stay. Your belongings will be moved to the suites for you if you wish."

"No, I mean what's going to happen to Samantha?"

"Samantha will be kept in the resort kennel until the police have reviewed all footage and informed the resort of their decision," the receptionist answered. As if on cue, another door opened and a wheeled pet carrier rolled into the room. It drove right up to Samantha and its door swung open to recieve her.

Samantha looked up at her rescuers, silently pleading for them to save her once again. This time it was Tom who took the word. "That's not necessary. Let us take her to our room and we'll take care of her until then."

"I'm afraid I can't allow that," the machine apologized. "Until the police have concluded their investigation, Samantha remains Tiffany Smith's pet. I am programmed not to give guests' property to other guests without their permission."

"Damnit! Is there any way to override that?"

"No," the machine said flatly. "Attempting to interfere with the programming of any resort electronics will result in your confinement and a report to the police. Please place Samantha in the provided pet carrier to be transported to the kennel."

Tom gritted his teeth. "I'm sorry Samantha. We'll figure something out, but we can't help you if we're arrested." Samantha looked at him in shock as he continued. "Get in the carrier. The AI won't hurt you, right?"

Samantha whimpered in fear as she eyed the box. How would Tom know what the AI was capable of? If it was malfunctioning enough to reduce a woman into a mute, naked pet there was no telling what else it could do. But Tom was convinced this was their only option, and she had no way to convince him otherwise. If she tried to crawl away on her own she'd probably be caught by the same robots that had carried her sister away, or the doors would simply refuse to open again. She didn't have a choice. Crawling clumsily with the mass of towels wrapped around her, Samantha approached the rolling cage on all fours.

Only to have another hope dashed. "Error! Pet carriers are only for pets. All other items must be removed from pet.”

It was just like at the airport, when she'd had to take off all her clothes before being allowed in the carrier. Samantha glared at the box, but she knew it wouldn't change its mind. When the error message was played again, she gnashed her teeth in frustration and began to tug at the towels covering her body.

With another "I'm sorry," Tom crouched by her side to help her get them off, averting his eyes as much as he could when her nude body was revealed. Pete stood back and studiously looked elsewhere, which made her feel slightly better. At least she wasn't being ogled like in the airport. But sooner than she would have liked, the last towel was off and there was no more delaying it. Gritting her teeth, Samantha crawled into the waiting container and laid down on its padded interior.

A moment later, the door clicked shut and the box began to move.
