Samantha's Tale
Samantha Rivers looked at Mrs. Dewinters with a grin on her face as she watched the french woman move in her blouse and skirt. A blazer hugged those two lovely mounds of flesh Samantha just wanted to bury her face in and stay there till next spring, hibernating through winter.
“Okay class. So we have delved into the world of black and white. Used for years before the age of color Black and White photography in those days was a slow painful process as the plates used in old cameras were less light sensitive then modern cameras. People had to sit still for a minute before the film developed. Imagine trying to take a selfie back then.” The teacher said and a few of the class laughed. Sam rolled her eyes. “That all changed though with the introduction of what?”
“Mister Greene?” Professor Dewinters pointed to Trevor.
“The flash bulb?”He smiled. Trevor was a know it all kiss ass.
“Yes and no. Anyone else?” Sam looked over as Jake wrote the word Flash Powder on his notes. The sly fucker knew the answer but he wasn't about to share with the class. All and all he was a quit kid and a nice guy. Sam begrudgingly liked his cute ass because he made it hard not to. The fact that he didn't want the attention made Sam respect him a little.
“Flash powder.” Someone else said in the back.
“Yes. Flash powder used a burning mixture of magnesium powder and potassium chlorate to produce a flash. Allowing for more light in the picture to be directed onto the plate for faster pictures, pictures indoors, and pictures in darkness but sometimes at the risk of overexposing a scene providing you didn't blow yourself up or set something on fire.” The professor said as she took off her blazer showing off her huge breasts in her tight blouse. Sam wet her lips with the tip of her tongue as she smiled.
“That is not to say faster is better. If you went outside and tried to get a shot of the nights sky with a camera you would get this.” The professor said as she turned on the projector and showed a mostly black screen. “But if you used long exposure you get this.” The second image showed off the milky way galaxy.
“See the difference. A technique over a hundred years old used today to capture something your average camera typically can not get.” The Professor smiled. Sam grinned as she wrote a note to herself. She had tried taking some dark pictures before but they had came out like shit.
“If you watch any footage from the moon landing one of the reasons it was called fake was because the exposure captures the brightest thing first even on film so the moon and the reflection on the suits outshines the stars in the background so they never appear on the film. The only object bright enough to be seen by camera would be the earth. And they had it easy because you all will have to deal with atmosphere.” The professor said as she showed a few pics of sunrise, day, and sunset.
“The sky absorbs shorter vertical blue light during the day and longer red rays in the afternoon and morning as they have to travel further horizontal through the atmosphere giving us sunsets and sunrises of reds and oranges but days of vibrant blues and nights of dark blue when in moonlight to black. Beautiful but also challenging to photograph at times as any of you who have tried to catch pictures of sunrises and sunsets can probably attest to.” She said
She changed the slide. “Here I have two pictures of a river at night.” The river looked like a lake in the second picture. “See the difference how one looks crystal clear. That is because the long exposure captures the light reflecting off the water filling in the shadows of the ripples over time.” Next came up a night sky full of fireworks. “Here we see a fireworks display of dozens of fireworks shot off over the course of a minute. Each one a blinding flash of color burned into the camera when it exploded. You tpically only see this many during the grand finally at a large fireworks show.” Even Sam had to admit it was pretty if not her cup of tea.
The next slide went to a beautiful woman in a skirt standing in what looked to be fog but Sam knew it was water. “Here we have a woman standing in a river. The white of the water looking like fog flowing around her. Needless to say my model would not take more then one picture like this as she had to stand perfectly still for a minute in the moving cold water but the shot was worth it for me anyways. All of these beautiful shots not possible by just taking a picture at normal shutter speed.” The professor smiled. “This weeks assignment will be architecture. Specifically how light plays on it. The best way to capture this is through long exposure. Here I have two pictures.” She brought up the images of a Gothic style cathedral. “If you look on the right you will see how dark the shadows are but on the left you can see the details in the shadows because the film was exposed to the light for longer.” She said as she pointed out the darker shadows in one with the laser pointer while the statues were more visible in the second showing more detail.
“Adversely though here is a shot in front of the same building at further away using short exposure. Can anyone tell me why I changed tactics in the middle of a shoot?” The teacher smiled as she showed a wide shot of the building.
She pointed at Angel with the laser pointer. “Yes Ms. Armstrong?”
“The birds in flight.” Angel said.
“Correct. I wanted to capture them in front of the building to make the picture go from just a building to feeling like a living breathing thing.” If I had tried to do long exposure the birds might have blurred or not appeared at all. I waited for someone to walk by and startle them into taking flight. Anyone else know when to use shorter exposure when taking Architecture shots.”
“Mister Greene?” The professor pointed to Trevor.
“To balance natural light and artificial light indoors.” Trevor smiled. Sam smiled as Jake wrote Real estate photography.
“Correct. That and if you are indoors you may need to move from place to place quickly to take shots.” the Professor smiled. “You will be dealing with both the lighting from inside and coming in through the windows when shooting indoors and if a place like an art gallery or museum you may have people so it is est to shoot and go Add in any reflected light off of surfaces and mirrors and your scene can become over exposed easily. Knowing when to take a picture in what exposure is sadly something you have to learn by doing on your own so I hope you will all take as many pictures as you can this week and figure out what works and what doesn't.”
“Now shall we discuss who won last weeks assignment?” The teacher smiled finally getting to the good part.
“Yeah.” The class said in a collective unison.
“Okay honorable mention goes to Mister Jones. While I said no people in the picture Cody found a way to skirt the rules and technically did not add people as we can see a group of ants showing there school pride by hoisting a school flag on there hill.” She said bringing up a few pictures with the last being an anthill with the school flag on a toothpick sticking out of it. The ants climbing up it reminded Sam of a World War 2 memorial. “He shot several objects in miniature creating a sense of being overwhelmed by the backgrounds as I am sure many of you have felt since getting here.”
The next shot was a basket of fruit with beads of water making Sam hungry. “Ms. Armstrong tried to add color to her pictures or the idea of it by using different shades of gray as you can see in this bowl of apples. I am sure they are green and red just by looking at them and the water droplets on the surface give the fruits a fresh inviting look even in black and white.”
“Second place goes to Mister Greene who shot some very complex and challenging shots using light passing through glass or reflecting off of surfaces to create some clean crisp images.” The teacher said as she brought up images of his work that looked almost medical with the glass and metal. He used glass to create transparent glass shadows. Sam would have had the shadows make some kind of shape or something if she gone that route.
“And the Winner is...” The teacher said and a few of the students did a little drum roll.
“Mrs. River's. Please come down here dear.” The teacher said and brought up an image she had taken from the cafe. Sam sighed and got up as she was actually trying to suppress a small smile..
“As you can see in this shot we have two cups of coffee sitting in front of a window on a rainy day. Though the image is a wide shot showing the background she specifically choose to blur the background thus making the objects in the foreground the focus of the scene while adding a depth of field. This allowed her to blur out any people or cars outside the cafe and focus on the assignment. Notice the steam rising off of the cups. The way the handles are turned away from each other. The lipstick marks on one of the cups. It all tells a story of two people sharing a romantic cup of coffee on a rainy day without every adding any people to the shot. Tell us how you got the shot dear, what settings you used on your camera.” The professor offered Sam the Laser pointer.
“Okay.” Sam smiled as the Professors fingers grazed her hand. “To create the out of focused background I used the aperture of the lens to limit the light coming into the camera and cat the background in bokeh...” Sam began to explain. She struggled a little with explaining the technical side of things as up till now she had just sort of tried shit and saw what worked.
“Very good.” The professor touched Sam's back and changed to the next shot. “The picture she took seem to tell a story. Here we have a book on a desk in a lecture hall facing the front of the class with a notepad. The background is blurred again drawing the eye to the book and the notepad. This could be any of yours day in any class making it relevant to any student at this school.” The scene changed again “Here we have a pair of what looked to be tinted glasses and sunscreen sitting on the hill no doubt where many of you choose to hang out on sunny days. Again simple objects telling a story. She was able to capture life on campus through simple black and white images of everyday objects. Including this one I am sure she thought I would not include.” The teacher smiled as she ran her hand down Sam's back. The image was a wet umbrella and a red brassier lying on the white carpet beside Sam's bed. Sam felt a little flush she had used that one.
“Needless to say what this image suggest with the wet umbrella beside the bed and the dark brassier lying on the floor. We can't see the bed or the people in it but from the first image our mind makes assumptions that the date went very very well.” The professor drew a little laugh. “There is no nudity or anything sexual in the shot but after seeing the first picture and then this one it tells a story of a romantic night.”
“And the final shot I chose to end on is before the date, we have a dorm room. A lipstick and compact sitting in front of a mirror with the room reflected in the back ground. Telling the story of a woman getting ready for something. What is the one thing you do not see in the reflection of the background?” The teacher asked and Sam smiled that she had chosen to end on this of all the pictures. The room was quit as everyone looked at the picture and then Jake raised his hand as he smiled seeing the trick Sam had used.
“Yes.” The teacher pointed
“Sam herself.” Jake shrugged.
“Exactly. There is no sign of her in the picture. Even with the background blurred we should be able to see her silhouette in the back ground of the mirror as the room is not that big. Instead all there is an empty room. Care to tell us where you were Ms Rivers?”
“I set my camera on my desk here behind these books and zoomed in from across the room.” Sam pointed to the books on the desk in the reflection. “I used a timer and stepped out of the shot and then came back. I took several shots from different locations before I got only one that I liked.” Sam frowned. She had taken five but only one had come out good.
“Yes. The shot we want we may not get the first time but if we are stubborn and try things differently the end result may be better then we thought so don't give up. All in all Ms. Rivers photos told a story as all pictures should.” the teacher rubbed down to Sam's lower back before her fingers slid off sadly. “I will be hanging my favorites of some of your works on the board. I suggest you all to browse your fellow students work next week. Maybe it will inspire your own shots in the future.”
“Now as our winner Ms. Rivers. I am giving you a handicap for next week. You shot some beautiful black and white pictures now I want to see color. I want you to add as much color into your picture as you can with proper focus. The exact opposite of what you gave us today.”
“Great.” Sam smirked and rolled her eyes drawing a laugh.
“I think you will be up for the challenge dear. You can go sit down.” The professor said and a few people clapped as she headed back to her seat.
“Congratulations.” Jake Said as she sat back down.
“Eat me.” Sam smirked at him. The rest of the class Sam couldn't help but smile as it felt good to come out on top for once even if the moment was fleeting.
As the bell rung everyone got up ready to head out for there weekend “Ms. Rivers. A moment.” The professor called and wiggled a finger.
“Sure.” Sam nodded her stuff and came down. She smiled as she got to the desk and took a seat. “Sup.”
“I need your permission if you would like to have your pics considered to be featured in the school magazine. No promises but...”
“Pass.” Sam cut her off. “You calling me in front of the class was more recognition then I am used to. Maybe after I felt like I have done something worth printing. I appreciate the offer though.”
“Your own worst critic. I understand mon cheire. If that is what you want. I won't be able to give you top spot next week but I am hoping you will not take this assignment easy just because you won this one.”
“Not a chance.” Sam shook her head.
“Glad to here it. I love seeing your work dear. I am a little surprised you hide your sexuality in your pictures though.” Mrs. Dewinters smirked as she twirled a pencil between her fingers.
“I didn't want the boys snickering and that is not for everyone. I knew so that was all that mattered.” am shrugged. It was no bodies business that she preferred girls.
“I understand completely.” Ms. Dewitners reached over and touched her hand. “How is that assignment I gave you been going? To take some pictures of yourself.”
“Well. When I can find the time that is. Hard to do when I have a room mate.” Sam smirked.
“Any you care to share?”
“They are a little on the erotic side which is why I don't shot when Yvonne is around. You told me to take them so I could see how beautiful I was so I did some black and white nudes of myself as practice”
Mrs. Dewinters blushed slightly and smiled. “Well not what I had in mind but I bet they are very beautiful. I never got into the whole selfie trend that your generation did though I have done some erotic pics with my other photographers but I am glad to hear you are taking my advice. This week I am thinking maybe try adding some color if you wish to keep taking them and maybe put some clothes on. I can't have you continuing to take them naked into the winter months.”
“I will. Not saying how much clothing but I will.” Sam teased and her teacher gave a little laugh wetting her lips as she shook her head. Ms. Dewinters was one of the few people she felt like she could be herself around.
"Do you have any lingerie?" The Professor touched her hand.
"Not really my thing." Sam blushed. Typically in most of her relationships underwear never stayed on long enough to worry about it looking nice.
"I think you would look lovely in it dear. Lingerie can empower a woman even if no one sees it. I always like to wear something sexy even if no one else sees it but my wife as much for me as it is for her. I always wear garter belts and stockings and such underneath even when I teach because it keeps the boys attention and makes me feel sexy even at my age." Mrs. Dewinter shrugged.
"Not just the boys." Sam smiled slyly. As she looked the sexy ass Tilf over running her eyes down to her sexy ass stocking clad legs.
"I know you did not have much of a mother figure to help pick out such things but if you want to buy something sexy you have my email. We will go shopping just the two of us or you can join me and my wife." Ms. Dewinters said and took Sam's hand giving it a squeeze.
"Thanks." Sam said squeezing back.
“Any luck in the friends department? I noticed you and Mister Williams are friendly.”
“He tries a little to hard but I suppose I get along better with him then anyone in my classes. He is more mature then most of the boys and doesn't try to hit on me. He helps me out even when I don't want help. I still owe him a roll of film for the other day when I ran out. I don't really like owing people favors because I never know what they will want from me.” Sam smirked. Not that she thought Jake wanted anything and was just being nice but she had trusted people in the past and been hurt.
“He is a sweetheart and I am sure he would never try to take advantage of you. I think he wants to be your friend and the fact that you have not pushed him away as easily as some others speaks to his character as a person.”
“Maybe.” Sam nodded.
“Anyone else?”
“I have been trying to talk to Angle but she is always surrounded by guys. Not that I can blame them but it makes getting her alone hard. I would so hit that if I was her type but sadly I am not.” Sam smiled. Angle looked like she be hell in bed. Sadly she was a very outgoing persn and seemed to attractie the attention of ever guy in the two classes they shares.
“Oh my. I have done that myself. Barked up the wrong tree as you Americans say on more then one occasion before meeting my wife.” The professor smiled. “Keep trying. I think the two of you could collaborate on some beautiful pictures. Since you can't win this week maybe help her out and give a few tips. She has great artistic talent but is lacking in some areas. Us ladies have to stick together in this business”
“Thanks professor.” Sam nodded.
“Any friends outside of class?” The professor sat back picking up a pencil and twirling it between her fingers.
“Karma but I wouldn't call us friends.” Sam looked down and blushed then glanced up.
“Girlfriend?” The Professor took the pencil to her luscious lips and traced it softly over them.
“Not really that either. Somewhere in the middle.” Sam blushed brightly.
Professor Dewinters bite down on the pencil and gave her a sly look. “Ah. Your secret paramour. It is nice to see you can blush.” The professor teased and leaned forward brushing hair from Sam's face.
“I like the way that sounds. My paramour. I know it can't go anywhere. She is a senior after all and this is her last year but its been fun. Besides you she is the closest I have gotten to anyone on campus.” Sam smiled. Sam typically befriended people older then her because she had to grow up fast.
“Well I am glad you have someone besides me that you can talk to closer to your own age. Now I should let you go and not keep you. I have a ton of work to do myself and am meeting the older students later. Besides you have some pictures to take. Remember I want to see some color in you pictures dear and if you and your paramour wish to spice things up maybe take pictures of one another. Not that they have to be nude mind you but it could be fun to try and show each other the way you see one another.”
“I will think it over.” Sam blushed as they would definitely be nudes if the two of them took pictures together.
