What does Sam do to find another wrestler?
Sam gets a WSW pin
“Hey! Cool, you got a new pin?” Jen asked Sam. The non-student was sitting on a park bench in the center of the school plaza, waiting for her enrolled training partner. She was wearing a T-shirt with Catwoman on it and ripped up jeans. Sam’s backpack looked like it was in tatters as well. It was adorned with various pins from movies, anime and video games, but Jen picked out the WSW one, recognizing that emblem immediately.
“Yeah!” Sam smiled, hoisting up her bag to show it off better. “I ordered it from the WSW site!”
“Woah… Wait!” Jen held up her hands, making a realization. “So you’re just going to wear it around for everyone to see?” There was a sense of dread and panic as she glanced around suspiciously at the disinterested campus pedestrians passing by. Jen then turned back to Sam and asked in a hushed and concerned tone, “What if someone recognizes it?!”
Sam chuckled and shrugged. “If they know, they know… if not, they won’t have anything to say about it!”
Jennifer still seemed nervous about the whole idea of associating with such a sexualized organization.
“But what if they know and they disapprove?” Jen asked, biting her lower lip and wringing her hands nervously.
Sam gave Jen and condescending look and asked, “Really? What are they going to do? Chastise me? Pray for my soul?” She chuckled. “Jen, you’re a college student! You, of all people, should know that we’re all free to be who we want to be! This is the time for you to explore and find yourself! Be proud of who you are! No one gets to tell you how to live your life except you!”
“I know…” Jen replied meekly, not getting as amped up as her more self actualized friend. “I just don’t think I could show off something like that to others.”
“Well, it’s also a way for me to find other people interested in WSW,” Sam added.
“Oh…” Jen nodded, getting the idea. She still shied away from the pin. “I think I’ll just stick to the Discords and other ways to meet wrestlers…”
Sam shrugged and grinned at her friend. “That’s how you met me, so I’m not going to trash your methods! You haven’t even told me how your latest match went with that new girl…”
“She’ll be at the wrestling meet up next week, so I can introduce you to her,” Jen told Sam. “I think joining the school gym program will really help you out with picking up your skills.”
“Yeah, well, I can only make it every other week, so I hope there’s other ways that I can use this membership to make it worthwhile. You get access to the pool, right?” Sam asked.
“Yep, access to all the facilities while the fitness center is open.” Jennifer checked her phone and added, “The center actually closes in an hour, so we’ll have to hurry to get you registered!” She waved for her companion to follow and marched at a brisk pace to the fitness center. Sam followed close behind.
They arrived at the registration counter where the clerk already looked checked out for the day. He grudgingly got up from his seat to go through the process of adding Samantha to the school’s gym registry. It had to be started from scratch because she wasn’t a student. She got her picture taken and all her info filled out in a form which the guy took to the back to print out a card while they waited.
“Sorry I couldn’t make it sooner, I had to close up shop tonight,” Sam apologized to Jen.
“It’s OK, I’ve been slammed with school work lately too,” Jen admitted. “With our schedules right now, we’ll be lucky to get in another sparring session together by the time the amateur tournament starts!”
“We’ll just have to make do with sharing notes from our other matches… with all the salacious details…” Samantha teased, licking her lips so that Jen had to turn away in embarrassment. “So, did you win or lose?” Sam continued to prod.
“It was a close match,” Jen answered diplomatically. “But I don’t think it’s prudent to share every detail of the match…”
“Oh, come on…” Sam moaned. “You know, I had a match with someone too!”
“Oh? Who?”
“Well, you don’t know her, someone who I couldn’t beat before, but thanks to training with you, I managed to come out on top this time!” Samantha said proudly.
“Oh! Wow! Congratulations!” Jen praised. “So, do you think I could have a match with this other person?”
Sam went a little pale, imagining poor little Jen going up against Tina. It was like a minnow facing a shark. She rubbed the back of her neck and looked around. “I don’t think that’d be a good idea, she’s like leagues ahead of us… I only won because she took a big handicap…”
“Oh…” Jen nodded sagely. She then asked with an impish grin, “Did it still feel good to win?”
“You better believe it!” Sam nodded wholeheartedly. “In fact, it felt even better because I’ve never even come close against her before!”
“That’s awesome for you!” Jen cheered proudly. “If we both keep winning, we may end up facing each other in the amateur league finals!”
“Well, don’t get too ahead of yourself,” Sam warned the wrestling neophyte. “We still don’t know who’s in the tournament yet!”
Their conversation was cut off when the clerk returned with Samantha’s new membership card.
“Great! Can I use this right away?” she asked him.
“You can try, but most of the facilities are probably closing around now,” the man shrugged. He was already packing up his station, getting ready to leave as well.
“Aww… I brought my swimsuit too, I wanted to try the pool…” she groaned. Sam enjoyed swimming over running or jogging to keep fit, so having a pool option was a big selling point for getting a gym membership.
“You can always come back tomorrow,” Jen consoled.
“You think we could swing by just in case I can sneak in a few laps?” she asked.
“Well, I have to head home to get more studying done, but I can show you where it is on the way back, maybe there’s still time,” Jen said.
Jen dropped Sam off at the pool and headed home, leaving the lithe young twenty something to go in alone. The lights were still on, which was a good sign. She went in and saw a few people coming out. The front desk was empty though so she looked around to see if anyone was in charge. She wandered out onto the pool area where there were still a few swimmers in the pool while most of the people were headed out to change.
She saw a lifeguard still on duty and decided to check with her about going in.
“Excuse me,” she greeted the fit blonde in the red speedo.
“Hey,” the lifeguard replied back, turning to see the short haired girl. “Pool is closing soon, sorry, you’ll hev to come back another day.”
Samantha looked downtrodden. She let out a sigh as she stared at the water just a few steps away. “Aww.. OK then…” she said in defeat, turning around to head home.
“I like your pin!” the lifeguard noted as Sam turned around, revealing her backpack. “WSW…”
Samantha perked her eyebrow. Could this lifeguard be in the know? Could she leverage this into some pool time? Would she try?
What does Samantha do?
