Chapter 7

What's next?

Sadarth and Fiora

They received many applicants, but had to reject most of them because it took more than a pointy hat to make someone a mage. Out of those who remained, many of them were men, and Aurora hoped an all female team would be more resilient to the Succubus's seductions.

That left them with two mages, Sadarth and Fiora, and the two could not be more different. "So," Aurora said, addressing Sadarth. "Your list of known spells is impressive, you're level is competitive to say the least, and the number of ranks you put into Knowledge: Demonology is downright disturbing."

Sadarth smiled. "Thank you."

"My main issue, though, is that if I accept you into the party, there may be some … alignment issues."

Sadarth gasped. "Are you insinuating that I'm evil? That's because I'm a dark elf, isn't it?"

"No, this has nothing to do with racial profiling. It does, however, and something to do with the work history section of your resumé, which has over six hundred years of tormenting the innocent."

"Hey! That nun was far from innocent! And so were those orphans!"

"Still," Rose said, "who better to help us with a demon than someone who can summon them in her sleep?"

Aurora gave her a flat look. "Do you really want someone who can summon demons in her sleep traveling with us?"

"Okay, if you put it like that, it might not be ideal, but she's still loads better than Plan B here. Fiora, it says on your resumé that you never completed your apprenticeship, under known spells you put, 'None, but I cast them anyway,' and under class you put 'Wild Mage.' Did you make that up?"

"No!" Fiora said. "Wild mages are real! We're just … recent. I found out what I was a while ago, and I've been trying to find another wild mage to teach me, but apparently we make even worse teachers than students. My magic works, honest, it just works … differently than for other people."

"Yeah?" Rose asked. "Give me one example, just one, of your magic not backfiring horribly."

"Okay, just last month when I was on the road. I was attacked by bandits, and they started giving me their, 'Your money or your life' talk, and so I cast a fireball at them. Well, I tried to at least. Something went wrong, and somehow I managed to turn all of them into women."

Aurora blinked. "So they just let you go after that?"

"Um, sort of. I escaped. While they were distracted. By each other."

For a moment no one spoke. Then Rose burst out laughing. "So, let me get this straight. You solved a random encounter with a lesbian orgy?"

Fiora blushed. "Don't put it like that!"

Rose laughed harder.

"She's still not evil," Aurora said. Sadarth rolled her eyes.

After a few more minutes of discussion, Aurora and Rose made their decision.
