Chapter 4 by Blackskull Blackskull

What's next?

Sabrina goes to school

Sabrina stirred in her sleep, sunlight streaming through her curtains and against her eyelids. She yawned and sat up, looked over at her alarm clock.

"My alarm didn't go off!" she cried, "I'm late for school!"

Sabrina grabbed the first underwear she found in her drawer and pulled it on, followed by grey trousers and a blue button-up top. She dashed down the stairs, tugging her brush through her hair.

"I'm late, aunties!" she shouted to the kitchen.

"Do you have time for a little breakfast?" Hilda asked, stepping into the doorway.

"I really don't, I..." there was a snapping noise and Sabrina suddenly found herself holding just the handle of the hairbrush, the end with the bristles still stuck in her blonde hair.

"Hold on, let me sort that out." Hilda offered.

"No time, I'm so late!" Sabrina replied, tugging out the broken brush and smoothing her hair down with her hand. With a black alice band in place she decided it would have to do, as she stepped into a pair of black shoes with a low heel and grabbed her purse, "I swear, it's like I'm cursed today!"

Then she was gone. Hilda mused on that last comment, as she realised that Sabrina had her purse, but had not taken her keys, phone or money with her.

Sabrina knew she had missed the bus and it would take too long to walk, so as she reached her garden gate she grabbed her old bicycle and jumped on it, pedalling frantically. A few minutes later she was in town, and had managed to make up some time. She was even allowing herself to relax a little, without letting up any speed.

There was a crunching noise from the bike, and Sabrina found her feet pedalling but not doing anything, as a cog sprang loose from the frame and the chain fell, rattling along the road. A second later, the handlebars came off in Sabrina's hands, she lost control of the bicycle which veered into the curb, the front tyre exploded and she was thrown off, landing in a large puddle.

"Really?!" Sabrina exclaimed, pushing herself up and looking at the scattered pieces of her bicycle.

School was not much further, so Sabrina left the wrecked vehicle on the side of the road and half-jogged the rest of the way.

As she reached the building the bell had already rung, but she would not be too late yet. She started up the steps to the front door.

There was a tearing noise from her foot, and an odd draft. Looking down, Sabrina saw the sole of her right shoe had split away from the rest of it, flapping open around her light grey Pikachu sock.

"Not my shoes!" she gasped, "I swear, if someone cursed me, they'll pay for this!"

Limping slightly in her ruined footwear, Sabrina entered the building and hurried for her first lesson, still brushing puddle water from her clothes.

She entered the classroom and the students turned to look at her- hair messed up, no make-up, clothes splashed with water, and one shoe flapping.

"Sorry I'm late." she gasped.

"Don't worry about it," Miss Wardwell said from the blackboard, "you look like you've had a hard morning."

"You have no idea."

"Just grab a copy of the text from my desk."

Sabrina picked up a book from the small stack, and as she did the pages fell loose and dropped to the floor, leaving her holding the cover.

"Oh, of course." she sighed, bending to pick them up.

RIP!

She froze, aware of what that noise meant. And also remembering vaguely that she had put on her light purple Piglet panties that morning.
