Who?
Ryan Chambers (Hiring Manager)
It was the freshly brewed coffee that assaulted the mind of one Ryan Chambers, his deep blue eyes focused on how the barista added two scoops of creamer into his coffee to give it a light brown tone, his nostrils inhaling the fresh scent of hot coffee while his tanned hands resisted the urge to reach out and grab the porcelain white cup least his hands burn again. Such was an average morning for a hiring manager who spends the bulk of his day within the confines of the same four walls, the same drab white walls with just a single line of dark green to give the office some "color" according to the painter.
Ryan hated these four walls, hated them with a passion and saw his occupation as nothing more than a glorified middle man between the staff and management. Powerful enough to determine the fates of most staff members and hires but not strong enough to overpower management in terms of authority for just about everything but an employee's job status and pay.
Ryan longed for those brief moments at noon where he could get out of the office and head down the street towards the local library where he could rent a lengthy novel and enjoy a good read during those few peaceful moments in his life.
Yet if one could look into Ryan's office they would notice that the middle aged man looked particularly happy today sitting behind his rather average looking desk. An average desk for an average man some might say but for Ryan the desk was just the perfect surface to hold the source of Ryan's joy- a stack of papers, specifically employee contracts that were written and printed by one Ryan Chambers himself.
Front to back the ten page document looked the same to the documents handled by the other hiring managers save for three simple alterations- a smaller font, a single piece of thicker paper, and an added clause buried within the confines of legality that no one, not even legal would realize was there simply due to the wording.
"Oboedi creatori huis pacti" or in English it means "Obey the creator of this contract". Words that many would believe to have been written by Ryan's superior as yet another perverted joke but the truth was far from the ordinary. In fact one could easily believe that they signed a contract with the Devil if they understood what it was they were signing but alas no one would ever understand that the paper they are signing has a multitude of various hidden deals and agreements unable to be seen by the naked eye. They simply sign without realizing what they were doing but Ryan knew, oh he knew all too well that the special paper was printed from the pages of a lengthy tome he had discovered the other day whilst exploring the library.
Left blank to the naked eye Ryan knew better once he signed his name onto the Book of Bonds, one of a handful that remains in the possession of mortal hands capable of binding the mind, bodies, and even souls of mortals in more ways than one. Some through spell craft, others through ritual, or in Ryan's case through contract although he could easily return to standard spell casting if he so wishes but not today oh no certainly not. For he was able to procure four carefully empty sheets from the spellbook without damaging the spine or the pages themselves and thus he simply inserted the seemingly blank sheet of paper and now he has four potential employees he could enslave. The only question is who will he choose?
