Chapter 34
by
alyena
Rush right into the nest, or observe for a moment and catch your breath after the climb?
Rush in - there's no time to waste!
You look down and can barely see the forest floor beneath you. You're weary from your battle with the spiders and from climbing up to this point, but you've come too far now and suffered too much to allow Indra to be bred by the disgusting monster holding her captive. He might finish with her at any moment, and by then, you don't know if there will be a way to save her.
Throwing caution to the wind, you dash down the limb of the tree you're currently perched upon and leap to the next branch in line. You pause only for a moment to find your balance before running down the length of the next branch. This jump is the critical one - you need to cross several meters of empty space and you have only a few feet of "platform" to stick your landing.
But you've already determined your path, and if you break your momentum now, the results will be disastrous. You make the leap. You don't close your eyes no matter how much you might want to... but you need to see where you're landing so you know how to adjust your balance.
The jump is on target, but you realize you're moving too quickly to recover from the landing without slipping. There's nothing for it. Your feet hit the branch, you absorb as much of the impact with bent knees as you can to prevent yourself from bouncing, but it isn't enough... So you don't try to stop the fall. You catch yourself with your hands, and you dangle for only a few moments before pulling your body back up. Your arms burn, but you made it. You can see the nest now, only a few yards away. You draw your sword and charge, intending to bust in and slay the Ettercap before he can even remove himself from Indra.
You're close enough to see inside the nest. The creature looks up and sees you as well. You still can't recognize any emotion in those arachnid eyes and lipless mouth, but Indra, at least, looks surprised, despite being fucked silly. You think it's because she had resigned herself to her fate.
You don't realize the real reason for her surprise is the pair of spiders that had descended on either side of you, and you never will. Your mind is still trying to process your sudden change of velocity when the webbing strikes your legs and back and yanks you off the limb. The free fall ends seconds later when your body smashes into the ground.
Even if your daemonic body could have survived the fall, there's nothing to stop the spiders from making a meal out of you. At least your **** was swift and relatively painless compared to Indra's.
BAD END! - Spider Chow
