Run for it

Diving into the water seems like suicide, even with the mud all churned up. After all, the mouther lives in this pond. You drive yourself with all of your willpower and all of your physical strength. Beneath your soft exterior is a warrior's physique. You draw on that training and those reserves of strength and race through the increasingly shallow water. The mouther crashes closer and closer. You don't dare look back now. You are almost to the edge of the pond. The mouther swings at you with a clawed hand and you dodge aside.

You leap out of the pond, vaulting directly into the path of two more of Frankenstein's armed soldiers in their strange, eyeless gas masks. They seem surprised by your sudden presence. It takes them a moment to level their machine guns at you and by then you are already rolling out of the way and rising to a sprint.

The mouther slaps its wet body onto the concrete and seizes one of the soldiers in clawed hands. With a hideous ripping sound the man is torn in half and blood and black liquid sprays everywhere. The other soldier begins shooting at the mouther.

You're already turning away, ducking between a generator building and a derelict storage shed. You struggle to remember the layout of the compound. You are fairly certain there is a small garage containing all terrain vehicles on the north end of the compound. It might be heavily guarded. To the south is a small communications center. You might be able to call for help from there, but again, it might also be guarded. You could also flee into the surrounding woods. At least that way you would have a little time to consider your options.

Your heart is still pounding wildly from fear and exertion. Behind you the gunfire suddenly stops and there is a crash as the mouther searches for you in a building. You have to act quickly.
