Run for cover

Tom grabbed Moira and ran out the lab door--both of them shielding their faces for fear of what would happen. The sound behind them was as loud as an explosion but didn't exactly sound like an explosion. I was as though a large orchestra had suddenly hit a dissonate chord all at the same time. This strange musical blast was followed by a large flash of light through the lab windows, but the light did not dissolve away.

Moira looked up to find Tom craddling her. It was nice to be comforted by him, even taking their current uncomfortable relationship into account. Her concentration on this matter was broken as footsteps could be heard running closer to them. It was Doctor Chapel.

"What happened," the exasperated Doctor questioned.

"We don't know," Tom started, "I had just finished copying the characters on the idol and the copy, not the idol, started glowing. Next thing I know we're out here and some explosive light is in there."

Moira let Tom fuddle his way through the explanation as she slowly got up. What she saw through the windows left her breathless.

In the center of the room, where tables and lab equipment used to be, was a tower of light that looked vaguely like a DNA strand. Rotating and beaming orange light throughout the room.
