Ruby made the first move

Ruby knew Pyrrha had an advantage, but there was no way she was going to let that girl get the lead.

“Jaune, listen.” Ruby sat on his other side and made sure to hold his arm against her chest, but in a way that made it seem like an accident. “There’s plenty of other fish in the sea. I know you fancy Weiss now, but I guarantee that will change. You and Weiss don’t have a lot in common.”

“I know,” Jaune sighed. “I was hoping maybe we could find some common ground and start there. Everything started fine and she even complimented the café I chose for lunch.” He gave a dry laugh. “Conversation was awkward, waiter dropped food on me, and the movie afterwards was horrible. Pretty much everything that went wrong did.”

“Those things happen,” Pyrrha assured him, imitating Ruby’s action. “You can’t give up because of something like that. I li-…” Her scroll went off interrupting her. It was probably a good thing, as her face was growing red. To hide her embarrassment, she glanced down at it. “Professor Goodwitch wants to see me, but I can stay and explain something to her later.”

“No, go.” Jaune shook his head. “I don’t want to get you in trouble. I’ll be fine and we can talk later. Promise.”

‘Well… if you’re sure.” Pyrrha looked like she really didn’t want to go, but didn’t have much choice. Before she left, she glared at Ruby.

“Are you really okay?” Ruby asked, as the door shut.

“I cried a bit, but it helped.” Jaune admitted. “Part of me always knew we wouldn’t get together, but I wanted to try. You miss 100% of the shots you never take. Maybe everyone was right and I should try to find someone else.”

“I’m sure there’s someone close to you who wants you to notice them.” Ruby said.
