Chapter 4

Where to now?
Right
Your bare footsteps silenced by the fabric below, your eyes squint in the dark, as you search for the next set of light switches. It takes a bit, but you eventually find them once more on the wooden panelling down the length of the passage. Testing doors, you open the first on your left, and find a small set of stairs that lead to that side-yard that you saw earlier. Testing the first on your right, found the laundry, nothing exciting. Testing the next one along on your right, the oaken door swings open to reveal a walk-in-pantry, loaded with all sorts of foodstuffs stacked upon it's high shelves, as various racks hold bottles, and numerous nets and ropes likewise hold up more material, flung across the ceiling, partially obscured in the dark. Another door rests at it's end, and your memory of talk in the car, alongside intuition, tells you that the kitchen can be found behind that particular portal. Eyeing some of the nets and ropes, you close the door again, and press on.
Testing the third door on your right, you come across a boiler room, and in the dark, you're quite surprised by the sheer number of pipes, and massive boilers that make the room quite packed indeed. It seems. . . quite excessive for such a building as this, though.. given that shower back there.. maybe there was something to it.
Testing the second on your left, you come across a fairly mundane office / storage room. Stuffy, filled with filing cabinets, shelves, though your initial disappointment is partially mitigated by the quality of the wood that makes up the shelves, and the ornate armchair and luxurious wooden desk that rests at it's end. Still, not worth your time at this hour of night.
And at last, the hefty white door in front of you at the end of the passage. It seemed to hold a place of importance, and yet, when you turned the handle, stubborn resistance met you from the mechanism.
That's odd.
That wasn't part of the run-down. Curiosity flares, and you wonder why this door is locked... You were informed that the entire building was open to you.. and yet, this door stubbornly stood in contradiction to that.
Sighing, and making note to keep an eye out in future for keys, you turn, and go back the way you came.
Exploration continued.
