Chapter 7 by Kingdom_Come

Who to follow?

Reverse the Process (Superhero Path)

Cameron was barely awake after spending all night working on a modification for the replicator. Crude as it was, he did the best he could with what they had available in the lab. One of his wives, plural, poured over their old engineering notebooks and data. The other three of the five Zoes had opted to stay home, since bringing two of them work without anybody finding out was difficult enough.

Reversing the matter replicator to combine matter hadn't been quite as simple as just reversing the polarity or whatever technobabble you could pull out of your ass, but it wasn't too complicated. The replicator functioned like a teleporter, it was just a matter of connecting two outputs to one input.

In theory.

In reality Cameron and the Zoes were terrified that it might go thermonuclear.

One of the Zoes walked up to him and gave him a tiny steel cube.

"This cube is exactly half a kilogram," she said, "So it should be easy to measure if we get any unexpected changes in mass, density, etc."

"What are you worried about most?" Cameron asked as he placed the cube inside the replicator.

"Firing!" the other Zoe shouted and they all donned their goggles.

"Worst case scenario we detonate a fusion bomb," Zoe said while the machine replicated the cube.

"Well it's a good thing we're standing right here then," Cameron said then pulled the original cube and its duplicate out of the machine.

"That, or I come out of the machine looking a Cronenberg special effect," Zoe said. Cameron shuddered as he loaded the two cubes into the new compartment.

"Are you sure you really want to do this?" Cameron asked his wife.

"I'm positive," she said, "If we don't I could end up overrunning the entire planet."

"Ok, do you WANT to?" Cameron reiterated.

"No," Zoe said, shaking her head solemnly, "Not really."

"We can just make sure you never sneeze again, maybe send your duplicates out of the country," Cameron said.

"Get real, Cameron," she said, "Fire it up!" The other Zoe punched the control panel and the machine lit up again, but a slightly different color this time. When Cameron opened the input door, both cubes were gone.

"Well that's promising," Zoe said sarcastically before they all heard a clang in the output compartment. Zoe opened the compartment immediately and hurried over to her clone with the cube.

"It works!" Zoe shouted excitedly.

"And no explosions!" the other one said.

"Here, weigh it!"

Cameron joined them a moment later and one of the Zoes said, "Well that's not great."

"What's wrong?" Cameron asked.

"Zero-point-seven kilograms," Zoe said.

"Okay so it gained some mass," Cameron said, "Not all of the mass of one of the cubes was destroyed."

"It gained a LOT of mass," Zoe said.

"I- or we, weigh 150," Zoe said deep in mental calculations, "...factor of 140%... I'll weigh 210 pounds when I come out of there!"

"Damn it!" the other Zoe said pinching the bridge of her nose.

"To say nothing of if I keep duplicating and we have to do this again, never mind the other three!" Zoe said.

"Cameron, please! I don't want to do this now!" the other Zoe said.

"Zoe, everything's going to be alright," Cameron "You've lost weight before."

"Not 60 pounds!" Zoe shouted. Cameron picked up the cube measured it with calipers, then did some quick math.

"Trust me, babe," he said when he was done, "You won't get fat." The Zoes sighed and glanced at each other skeptically.

"Alright, we trust you," they said. They each gave him a kiss then climbed into the new compartment. It was a tight fit; they had to curl up into fetal position, and they both instinctively clenched their jaw in gut wrenching anticipation of being torn apart again at the subatomic level.

"I love you Zoe," Cameron called.

"We love you Cameron," they said as they closed the door.

"We really should have tested this on a rat first," one of them said when they were locked in, "What if we do come out looking like something from a sci-fi-horror flick?"

"We'll be ok," the other Zoe said and took her duplicate by the hand. They closed their eyes as the machine hummed to life and the laser started scanning. The Zoes grabbed each other even tighter as their hair suddenly stood on end from all the static, and then try as they might to hold it in, they still screamed as the machine torn them apart into the fabric of space time.

It was over instantly though, a small mercy, and Zoe felt light headed. Oh, and nauseous. And very disoriented.

"Hey Zoe, you there?" Zoe asked, "Zoe?" Suddenly she recalled multiple sets of memories from different people which gave her a splitting migraine. It got worse when Cameron opened the door and help Zoe struggle to her feet out of the machine.

"Ugh... light..." she groaned and covered her eyes. She instinctively looked up to talk to Cameron but he wasn't there. She tilted her head down to find she was just as tall as him now. He wasn't looking her in the eyes though.

"Cameron what are yoOOOH MY GOD!" Zoe looked down and jumped back with shock. Her boobs were enormous!

"Zoe you're STACKED now!" Cameron's eyes were almost popping out of his head.

"I'll say," Zoe said and walked, slowly since her head still hurt, to look in the mirror on Cameron's toolbox. She angled it down and grabbed her brand new tits with both hands and bounced them up and down.

"I'm sure you're loving this," she said to her husband, but when she turned around he still wasn't looking her in the eye. She realized he was staring at her ass, so she reached down to feel it and...

"Holy!" she twisted to look at it and her jaw dropped. She had a body now like a comic book superheroine.

"I guess we know where a lot of that mass went," she said but she felt a sneeze coming on.

"Plug it! Plug it!" Cameron said when he saw her start to sneeze. She plugged it just in time and pinched her nose until she felt safe to breathe again.

"That was ACHHOOO!"

"Damn it!" the second Zoe said as soon as she materialized.

"Well it worked once," they then said in perfect sync.

"Ah, my head," they said after that.

"What's wrong?" Cameron groaned. They had been so close to making this problem go away, but they had taken three steps forward and two back.

"I don't know," Zoes said, "I think I feel her."

"What, you mean each other?" Cameron asked.

"Yeah," they said, "What happens if I-" then they reached out and took each other's hand. Next Cameron saw them both disappear in a luminous plasma cloud, and when it disipated, there was only one of them still standing, the other had simply vanished.

"I had no idea if that was going to work!" she said excitedly.

"Oh thank god," Cameron sighed with relief, "but what did you do?"

"I felt something else, maybe someone, and it told me to hold onto the feeling of merging back together, like we did a few minutes ago," she said.

"Huh," Cameron stroked his chin, "Well honestly I'm just glad we can reverse this. We better get home to the other three of you though."

"And I can't wait to see the look on their faces!" Zoe said as she wagged her new tit back and forth.
