Chapter 35 by Faustus Faustus

Where To First

Retail Therapy

Emma wandered around town, if you could call it that. As far as small town's went, this one was tiny. Ridgefield seemed to be one main street with a cluster of shops and a small restaurant or two, and one gas station for the whole town.

Where the hell am I, Emma wondered as she roamed the street.

But things weren't as bad as she had feared. There were actually some decent shops. She hit a clothing shop, and a small antique store. With funeral expenses not fully taken care of and the ever present worry about student loans, Emma resisted the urge to actually buy anything. Every shop she stopped in had polite and happy employees, though Emma wasn't sure how much was genuine and how much was just excitement at having a customer in the quiet town.

Having managed to kill a few hours, Emma headed back to the bus stop. She notice a small court house that she had missed on her first assessment of the town. Emma figured that must be where the town's police station was as well.

Luckily Emma didn't have to wait long for the bus leaving town. She entered and paid her fare, smiling again at the same driver as before.

"Not many folks leaving town, Miss." The light-skinned black man said.

"It doesn't seem like there are many people coming or going when it comes to this town." Emma joked.

"True enough, Miss. The bus is all yours this trip." The driver said.

"Emma, please." She said introducing herself.

"A pleasure, Emma. I'm Clyde. Seat your pretty little self anywhere and we'll be on our way."

Emma looked down the empty aisle and took her seat.

Where Does She Sit?
