Chapter 16
by elmerstories
What is the next plan of action?
Rest
In the end, you and Maxius decided that it would be better to rest first. It's not that you were tired, but you could see that the sorcerer needed some time to adjust to his new body. Besides, it would give Blaize and Liquis some time to gather everyone that was required and control the situation within the city.
Liquis did warn about possible spies in the city. While they try to figure out who has the heart to defy their master, it's not always possible to weed elementals out of this grand city they built.
As such, Liquis warned to be on guard. While it doesn't help the thought of resting, you would rather be given such warnings than none at all. Although Liquis is a bit mysterious, you find her ability to coordinate and insight amazing. You can't believe that this being was just a mindless elemental who just followed orders before. The same goes for all the elementals who chatted with other elementals and leisurely walked through the city as if their existence is the most normal thing in the world.
If they ever succeed in escaping this mountain, which would no doubt depend on Maxius, you are curious as to how well they could integrate. Maybe they would continue to keep themselves isolated away from humans and other races?
The more you think about these possibilities, the more you are amazed at how strange the world works. As a monk, it's common to learn about the concept of reincarnation. In a world of magic and where strange phenomenon occurs every century, it enlightens those who study the world and want to know how it all works, how life comes to be, and how to improve on oneself.
There are many new beliefs sprouting every day, however, reincarnation has always been a consistent belief in your monastery and other branches around the world. Maxius' recovery could be called a form of reincarnation, yet also not quite since he has lingering memories of his past. If he regains those memories, then he may end up the same person as he was before, regardless of whether his body is different.
Yet these elementals has provided another twist in the idea of reincarnation. How did they gain their self-awareness? Do they gain a spirit or perhaps these elementals were imbued with a preexisting spirit?
You sigh as you lie in deep thought over what you have seen today. As you close your eyes, you focus on the dripping noises of the damp cavern around you, tuned out by most, but you focus intently on it, letting the environment naturally alert you if there comes to be a disturbance.
Does anything happen while you rest?

Descent into Madness
You are a hero, villain, or treasure-hunter. It doesn't matter. Just survive.
You arrive at the famed mountain, literally called Madness. What is special is not the mountain itself, but what lies underneath. A long-lost city deep beneath the mountain, but anyone who wishes to visit must overcome darkness. Within the treacherous paths and traps exists the possibility of pleasure, glory, power, fear, subjugation, and above all, madness.
