Respond passive-aggressively

She looked at me right in the eye waiting for my response with a slightly mocking look. I tried to answer in a calm voice. Something in her imposed on me. She appeared to be such a strong and powerful woman. She was very popular here in the Convent and many of the girls tended to follow her lead. I was convinced I would never, ever be like her.
