Replace santa

"Well, you know even though we elves help santa there are some things we can't do, they gotta be done by a human, things like driving the sleigh, and carrying the sack or placing the gifts, we just can't do it, it's because of the magic, without santa to do those things we are completely lost, unless we could find a replacement" he said looking at Vanessa.

"M-me? I can't do that, I have no experience I couldn't bear such responsibility" she said.

"you'll do fine, you'll have my help, also if you want to make it up for your mistakes I don't think you have many options" said the elf.

Vanessa thought for a second, he was right, it was her fault that Santa was not able to do his work, therefore it was her responsibility to do it in his behalf.

"also, this is not only about you and me and santa, it's about those children that still had not got their presents, if you refuse to do it their christmas would be ruined completely" added the elf point at the window from which could be seen the city.

If Vanessa was not fully convinced before, now she was, she could never live up with having ruined the Christmas of countless Children, even if the task was impossible for her, she had to do it.

"okay, I'll do it, but tell me, how much time do we have until the dawn?" she asked

"you got 3 hours, but this is the last city, this year we were making a really good time " answered the elf inquisitively.

"understood" said Vanessa nodding with determination, she was going to save christmas even if it was the last thing she did.
