Related: Magic

Surprisingly, magic is often closely related to Pseudotech. Where a Pseudotech user is generally convinced they're using sound (but not formally recognized) branches of science, magic users have the same belief... with a few word substitutions. Where a Pseudotech user crafts medicine, a magic user brews potions. Where a Pseudotech user makes a jetpack, a magic user makes a flying cloak. Where a Pseudotech user builds a portable shield generator, a magic user crafts an amulet of protection. Where a Pseudotech user crafts and fires a tech gun, a magic user researches and casts a spell. Where a Pseudotech user builds robots, a magic user crafts constructs, calls devils in rituals, animates the dead, or similar. Where a Pseudotech user enhances a person's body with cybernetics, a magic user applies magical grafts. And so on.

They're fundamentally the same super power, but with different spins. A magic user's power is slightly more innate (they don't usually need gear to make a basic magic blast, and many spells and rituals require no materials) and thus are less subject to simple breakage... but magic requires concentration (it's not easy to control, and distractions can make it difficult or inpossible to use fully) and can't interface with real technology nearly as easily, which makes it much less applicable to modern life. Yes, some magic users have spells that work with technology (but it's a lot less common because the backing lore isn't as common: Merlin didn't have computers), and most magic users have at least one 'go to' spells that they've drilled on enough to cast while upside down in a tornado at an old school Metallica concert, but a mage that's dostracted and off-balance is much easier prey than one that can focus.

Just as most pseudotech inventions are nonsense, so too are the vast majority of spells and rituals... but like with pseudotech, you never know who has some underlying talent for it that just needs a place to express itself....
