Chapter 46 - Regret
Kelly’s mouth met Torin’s in a kiss that was meant to burn with pure passion, but the moment their lips touched, Torin tasted the unmistakable salt of her tears. The wetness slipped between them, warm and bitter against the kiss, changing everything before he could even respond. What should have felt like fire instead felt raw and desperate, as though something beneath the kiss was breaking apart.
He could feel the tears on her face as she pressed herself closer, and the strange mixture of desire and sadness left him unable to understand what she was trying to say without words.
Torin pulled back at once, breaking the kiss before it could go any further. He looked directly at her, trying to make sense of what he was seeing, while the taste of her tears still lingered on his lips. “No, Kelly. It’s not the right thing to do now,” he said, his voice carrying a firmness that he hoped would make her stop.
There was no anger in his words, but there was a clear refusal, an attempt to put some distance between them when everything about the moment seemed to be pushing them in the opposite direction.
Kelly refused to accept that distance. Before Torin could step away, she moved closer again, pressing her body fully against his and leaving almost no space between them. Her tears had not stopped, and yet she continued to look at him with the same desperate determination.
“Torin, please. I need you tonight,” she whispered, her voice carrying an urgency that made the situation even harder for him to understand. There was something in the way she said it that made it sound less like a simple desire and more like a desperate need she could not push away.
Torin stared at her, his thoughts racing as he tried to understand what had happened. What exactly was happening here? Why had Kelly suddenly become so aggressive, so determined to get dirty with him when nothing about the evening had prepared him for this?
Only moments ago, he had not expected anything like this, and now she was standing against him, asking him to give in while tears continued to run down her face. The two things did not fit together in his mind. Her desperation, her tears, and the sudden hunger in her actions left him struggling to understand what had changed.
He placed both hands on her shoulders and pushed her back, forcing enough space between their bodies for him to breathe and think. Even then, his body betrayed the control he was trying to maintain.
His cock had already hardened inside his pants, straining against the fabric as he stood there facing her. The physical reaction only made the situation more difficult, because while his mind was telling him to stop, his body had responded to her closeness before he could prevent it.
Torin kept his hands on her shoulders for a moment longer, holding her away from him as he tried to regain control of himself, and then Kelly’s hands dropped lower. She found the outline of his shaft and rubbed it through the material, her palm moving in slow, insistent strokes. At the same time, she leaned her face forward, clearly wanting another kiss, while her hand never stopped working him.
The tears on her cheeks had dried, leaving faint traces across her flushed skin. The warmth in her face had deepened, spreading from her cheeks until even the tips of her ears carried a faint red hue. Her breathing remained uneven, and when she looked at Torin again, the uncertainty that had lingered in her eyes was gone. There was only desire now, open and impossible to mistake, as though she had finally stopped fighting against what she wanted.
Torin stared at her for a moment, trying to force his thoughts back into order. He reached down and gently took hold of her wrist before moving her hand away from him. His grip remained careful and controlled, but the gesture itself made the distance between them feel suddenly more real.
“You will regret it tomorrow morning.”
Kelly did not hesitate. She held his gaze, her breathing still unsteady, and gave him an answer that came with none of the uncertainty he had expected.
“I know.”
She leaned toward him again before he could say anything else and kissed him. This time, there was no rush and no hesitation in the way she did it. Her lips met his softly, deliberately, as though she wanted him to understand that she had heard his warning and had chosen to remain there anyway. When she pulled back, she stayed close enough that he could still feel the warmth of her breath between them.
“Embrace me, Torin,” she whispered, her voice quiet but steady. “Just for tonight.”
Torin looked into her eyes for several long seconds, searching her face for any sign that she might change her mind. He found none. Whatever regret tomorrow might bring, Kelly had already accepted it. She was not asking him because she had forgotten the consequences. She was asking because, for tonight, she wanted to stop thinking about them.
He finally gave a small nod.
Then he slipped his arms around her and lifted her into his embrace. Kelly instinctively held onto him as he raised her, her body relaxing against his as she settled into his arms. Torin adjusted his hold before beginning to walk, carrying her toward the bedroom.
She rested against him as he moved, her face turned toward his chest, while the room slowly disappeared behind them. Torin said nothing more, and neither did Kelly. There was no need for another argument, another warning, or another question.
He carried her through the doorway and toward the bedroom, holding her close as the distance between them and everything they had been trying to resist disappeared with every step.
