Tjorvi couldn’t risk it. He knew his father well enough – if they ended up having a bad season, the old man would’ve been the first one to starve to **** in order to spare as much food for the other people of Jokulsa. No way Tjorvi would let that happen, and so he returned back to his birthplace with nothing but an assurance of the well-being of his family. It wasn’t a dishonorable life, but it definitely wasn’t the saga he had been searching for either.

And as it turned out, they did have a pretty bad harvest that year. Luckily they had enough food left in the storage to survive the winter comfortably...
