Chapter 25 by Caesar25 Caesar25

What's next?

Preemtive strike

The next day you escort Padmé to the senate building, where she holds a few more meetings, trying to earn more votes. During one of these meetings, a senator walks to you and whispers something, as Padmé is making an other inspiring speech for her cause.

Senator (whispering): Master Jedi, may we have a word? In private.

Lana (whispering): Why of course senator, what would that be about?

Senator (whispering): About the incident. A friend of mine found a solid lead, but the matter requires... Discretion. I do not know whom to trust, so I have to turn to you.

You nod and follow him out of the room and into his office. Only you two are present, he visibly takes good care not to be followed.

Senator: Khm, I am Senator Jarris. I am going to tell you everything, but you must promise to keep it between the two of us. Is this an option?

Lana: Certainly senator, what would you like to tell me about?

Jarris: It is no secret the senate is running an investigation about that Neimoidian, who caused all this fuss. When I saw his face in the terminals, I knew I have seen him before. I had one of my most trusted man in the senatorial guards, look into a few things and I did find something. The Neimoidian, whatever his name was, had been in the building more than once.

Lana: How did you memorize his face so well?

Jarris: There aren't many of their kind around here, save for the ones in the Trade Federation. I thought he was one of them, so didn't pay much attention to him. Until...

Lana: Until...?

Jarris: Until my friend checked the security cameras... He found that the terrorist broke into my office!

Lana: Broke into it? How?! Did he steal something?

Jarris: He had the security key to it, so there were no signs of burglar on the door. Nothing is missing, I have double checked everything today. Though, I found that he might had checked my correspondences, files, everything on my computer. I have no idea why it was important to him, I am tasked to monitor the illegal **** trade in Republic space. Those were the files he read, alongside the messages I sent in connection them.

Lana: Why would he break in to read about **** trade in the Republic, then try to kill the senators?

Jarris: This I do not know... But there is more... The matter that requires the utmost secrecy.

Lana: I am listening.

Jarris: It is about the security key. There are only 2 of them. One is in my pocket, it always is, I carry it with myself to everywhere. My wife has the other, it is just a backup, should my key malfunction. I looked at which key was used during his time here, and it was my wife's.

Lana: How did he get that?

Jarris: I assume he just went to my apartment and asked for it...! I have hidden cameras is my home, without my wife knowing. Just to be safe, and...

Lana (interrupting): You were spying on your wife the whole time?!

Jarris: Look Jedi, our marriage isn't a happy tale. It was never based on mutual affection, a man of my status has to marry at a young age to avoid bad rumors, her family lacked money, so we married, I got a wife, she got money to spend. Besides the official parties we showed up together, we never spent much time together. We didn't really care about the private lives of the other, though I have never cheated on her, only worked overtimes to get further in the senate. I have never expected to stay faithful to me forever, but I certainly not expected her to lay with an enemy of the Republic! Even worse, help him spy on my work and steal my data! I have no false hopes, the investigators fill find the same lead soon and connect her to the incident, maybe even me, which would tarnish my reputation!

Lana: Alright, so... How do I come into all of this?

Jarris: I have heard much about your kind. Your divine powers, called the ****.

Lana: Let's not call that divine, we aren't gods.

Jarris: Whatever you call that. I have seen holos about Jedi waving a hand and brainwashing the people around them. I need that skill of yours! I know a Jedi would not leave a Republic citizen's plea for help unanswered!

Lana: For what, exactly?

Jarris: Let me be straight with you. First, I want her punished. I want you to brainwash her, make her suffer for her betrayal! Then, I need her gone. For good. By any means possible, all that matters is that it couldn't be traced back to me.

Lana: You want me to kill her?! For cheating on you?!

Jarris: The main reason is the treachery, but her unfaithfulness adds to that, so basically, yes. I need her eliminated.

Lana: Why should I do that?! I won't get into trouble because you might get into trouble otherwise!

Jarris (taking a small pouch of credits out of his pocket): I am willing to pay you 500 credits, in advance! You can refuse of course, then, I would ask a mercenary to do the job. I would rather pay this money to an honourable Jedi and not a lowly murderer.

Lana (thinking): Interesting... It can't be too hard to get rid of a civilian. Yet, it's so wrong... If he pays in advance, that means I might be able to save the woman, once I met her and heard her out too.

Lana: Okay, what are the details?

Jarris: Send her to the lower levels, there are few security cameras there. I have an address, here. It's a less legal drinking establishment of one of my associates. There are mostly aliens and thugs there, mainly Gamorreans, Wookies, etc. Manipulate her mind to make her a whore, ready to be cumdumped by all those inside. As for the kill itself... After her humiliating **** is done, have her jump down a few thousand levels from the pub. It could either be an accident, suicide, the authorities will never know.

Valare: Damn, the man has imagination! I like him already!

Lana: Hmm, you are quite prepared, when it comes to getting your wife killed, it seems.

Jarris: Just the necessary precautions. Do we have a deal, Master Jedi? I could arrange the same thugs to abduct her and get the things done without you too.

Lana: We have a deal. I'll handle her, you won't be seeing her again, ever. Guaranteed.

Jarris (handing you the credits): Always a pleasure to make business with a Jedi! My apartment is located at this address. I have arranged, that none of my bodyguards will be at home today, you will find her alone. Oh and one more thing. Should you go back on your promise, the men in the pub will tell me if the woman doesn't die. Just remember why I paid you.

Lana: Noted.

You leave his office and head to his apartment. You haven't decided what to do with the woman once you find her. Upon ringing the bell, a beautiful woman opens the door. Now you understand why he wanted to marry her.

Woman: Good day, how may I help you?

Lana: Hello, your husband Jarris has sent me to meet you, it's urgent.

Woman (concerned): Oh, what has happened to him?! Is he alright?!

Lana: He is, but we need to talk, inside.

Woman (closing the door behind you): Yes, yes, come in!

You drop an ion charge onto the floor, the radius covers the entire room. Now, you must have disabled the hidden cameras.

Woman (confused): What are you doing...?!

Lana (pulling out your blaster): Look, it will sound harsh, but I want to be quick about it. He sent me to kill you.

Woman (scared like hell): What...?! Just, what...?!

Valare: Girl, you really were quick about it!

Lana (thinking): Wait, I just wanted to scare her, so she may tell me everything without trying to hide things!

Valare: By cutting ruthlessly into her feelings and telling her she's about to die. A true Sith move, you are learning!

Woman (collapsing onto her knees, begging): Please, please, it must be a misunderstanding! I-I haven't done anything wrong...! I may have been cheating on him with a few men but...! That certainly no reason to send an executioner to kill me! Please, I don't want to die!

Lana: I'm no fan of executions either, so tell me everything I need to know and you might get to walk out of this alive!

Woman (sobbing): I'll tell you anything, anything you want!

Lana: Have you met a Neimoidian recently? One, that you allowed into this apartment?

Woman (hesitating a little): Y-yes, I have... I slept with him, like the others... I, I didn't think Jarris would be so angry for it, we haven't had sex for a year now...! I thought he wouldn't mind...!

Lana: He isn't too concerned about your private activities. That man had broken into Jarris's office in the senate with the security key stolen from you and took some of his vital data and information. He believes you gave him the key.

Woman (crying): He did what...? I have nothing to do with that...! I haven't even seen the key missing! I was used...!

Lana: The same man yesterday attempted to kill dozens, if not hundreds of senators in the senate building.

Woman: So, that was the incident Jarris talked about? He didn't tell me details...! Up until this moment, I didn't even know of that attack!

Lana: Jarris traced him back to this apartmant, he saw you getting laid by the Neimoidian via his hidden cameras...

Woman: Hidden cameras...?! He was spying on me the whole time?! That jerk...!

Lana (pointing the blaster at her): If the pending investigators find out about it too, his reputation as a senator will be ruined, I believe you know what I'm talking about. And he cannot allow it to happen...

Woman: Wait, wait, please! I'm innocent, I didn't know anything about it...! You have to believe me, I'm just a simple wife...! I met the Neimoidian in an opera! He came up to me, he was kind and nice, we agreed to meet again, then we ended up having this part timer relationship!

Lana: I believe you, but what I believe is of no importance here. So, if that is all you can tell me...

Woman: N-no, there's more...! I...! I once saw him talking to a Republic general...! When we agreed to meet last week at the nearby theater, I saw him talk to a high ranking officer through his holocommunicator! That's all I know, I swear...! I know I should have reported it, but I didn't think it was that odd! I don't know who he was, we never talked about our past or lives, only about culture and arts!

Lana (thinking): I sense she's telling the truth. I might be able to find this "general", if we look at the camera footage of that theater. She's of no further use to me or Jarris. Now, what should be her fate? I'll have to take her to Jarris's "friends to have some fun" either way, or he'll find and kill her anyway. If I orchestrated her disappearance, he wouldn't look for her ever again and she would be a free woman somewhere far from here. However, is she really worth the effort?
