Reconnaissance

"This is the place." She-Hulk dryly observed as they entered the final hallway leading to ground zero.

"Love the ambiance." Captain Marvel snarked as she looked at the over head lights that were blown out. She looked at the shattered wreckage of those overhead lights lying on the ground. "Nice early warning system. No way to approach on foot with making a bunch of noise."

"Thats not a good sign." She-Hulk harrumphed.

"The power is still on in the classroom." Storm pointed to the one light source in the hallway. The small glass window in the classroom door providing some small illumination.

"Ok, ladies what do you want to do here?" She-Hulk looked down the hall and then back at her teammates.

Storm and Captain Marvel shared a look, then they both looked down the hall at the floor covered in glass and other detritus.

"I'm the choice for recon." Captain Marvel stepped to the front. "I can fly over all the crap and not disturb it, denying whoever's behind this a heads up that were here. Storm's winds would just blow that crap all over the place and make a helluva racket."

Storm gave a nod of concession.

"Just fly down, look in the window, come back and tell us whats up." She-Hulk clarified, "Nothing fancy."

"If someone's life is on the line?" Captain Marvel asked.

The conversation stopped as suddenly there was a wave of static electricity that passed thru the trio. This time they were able to see its approach as the crest of the wave affected the area around it, repairing the broken lights in the ceiling.

"I think... I think perhaps we might be jumping the gun, as it were." Storm looked at the repairs, the lights shining brightly, like they had never been shattered.

"How so?" She-Hulk asked.

"Many mutants first use their powers in high stress situations. Unaware that they are using them. When they become aware they try to... fix any damage they may have caused." Storm pointed to the ceiling lights.

"What was the brief on this?" Captain Marvel asked She-Hulk.

"Seniors in their German class were taking a big test... something like 60% of their grade in the class depends on doing well on the test. And you have to finish a language to graduate. " She-Hulk recited from memory.

"High stress, depending on the student." Storm observed. "Not the birth of a raving madman we feared."

Captain Marvel let out a deep breathe of relief. "Oh thank god. I do not want to throw down with an unknown in a friendly occupied school classroom."

She-Hulk looked down the hall for a few seconds and then nodded her head. "Okay. So.... We will remain vigilant but we will procede from here on in with the idea that this is all accidental. This a mutants first use of power and nothing was done maliciously. But, again, remain vigilant and look for anything that might be dangerous. Unintentionally dangerous." She amended when Storm gave her a reproving look.

"All three of us?" Captain Marvel canted her head towards the classroom.

"All three of us. Out in the open, non threatening, just hwre to help." She-Hulk agreed. She did pause and look at Storm, "You are sure about this? This being a scared kid? Because we are going to take an big risk with this out in the open approach if you are wrong."

Storm titled her head slightly, "As sure as anyone can be about anything. There is always a margin of error. But I am an optimist. I choose to believe that this is merely a scared and frustrated child. Not a power mad despot reveling in their first taste of power."

"Jen, for what its worth, I want it to be a scared kid too." Captain Marvel said from the otherside of She-Hulk. "I dont want to spend today kicking the crap out of a school kid with a chip on their shoulder."

She-Hulk pulled her long green hair back from her face and secured it in a pony tail, just in case there was a fight, but as she did so she softly concede to her teammates, "I hope its just a kid too."

Captain Marvel made a show of pulling on her gloves, "The kid gloves are on."
