Rebecca comes back

Peter sat at his desk and began working through some calculations, there were still problems with the breasts, if deprived from the nutrient liquid for too long they would suffocate and die within minutes. By tweaking a few pieces of DNA here and there he hoped to increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the bloodcells to allow the breast to survive upto 15 or so minutes. It would need to be longer for other organs where surgery was required for implantation but for breasts it should be acceptable.

There was a knock at the lab door, Peter glanced at the security monitor to see Rebecca. He had thought maybe he had pushed too far with the ethics stuff. He buzzed her inside and she entered looking a bit confused and frazzled.

"Uh sorry doc, I'm not sure why I got so emotional on you there"

"A perfectly reasonable reaction Ms Black, we are after all using the remains of people for our experiments. Sometimes I forget that the poor things are unwanted, I try to think of it like this. Without my work these embryo's would go nowhere and be helpful to no-one. At least with my work I can give them a kind of future."

"I suppose I never really thought about it that way Doc"

"I always found it odd the connection we have with embryo's and yet we are perfectly fine to cut up and experiment on corpses of adult humans... Strange."

Peter snapped out of his reverie and looked at Rebecca.

"Ms Black I can't have you rushing around being emotional and interrupting my work like that again, I ask that in future you try and control yourself. There is a time for emotional outbursts and a time for work. If you want a bright future in Biological Sciences you need to develop a professional detachment from the subjects of your experiments" He paused looking into her eyes "Do we understand each other Ms Black?"

"Yes Dr Young, I won't let it happen again!"

"Good, now if you would be so kind as to retrieve the specimen from tank 21, I think its time we gave you a more intimate look at our creations"

They spent the next several hours going over the biology of the breasts until he was happy Rebecca had learned all she could from them.

Rebecca came to accept her place as Peters assistant and slowly their relationship developed into a friendly teacher protege familiarity, Peter taught her all he knew and together they began to refine the way the breasts worked. Until...
