Realizations

I blinked. Once, twice, and then a third as the woman released my neck. I had clearly heard something snap. So why wasn’t I feeling any pain now. I reached up and rub my neck as I slowly backed away from the woman. Her gaze was tilted down, and I followed. I wish I hadn’t. Nothing could prepare me for what I saw next.

On the floor, a still as a statue, was an identical copy of my body. Wait…it wasn’t a copy, I realized as I looked down and noticed the broken neck. OH NO! Does this mean….?

I was snapped out of my frantic thoughts as I saw the woman start to drag my body further inside, just a police officer’s siren was heard in the distance. Surely, they were after her, I thought. What she did next surprised me. She opened the dishwasher and stuffed my corpse inside, squeezing it in, no doubt damaging both the washer and my body.

Then before my eyes, her form started to ripple before it turned completely silver, like she was covered in mercury. Her body then reshaped itself into an exact duplicate of my own. What was going on? Who was this woman? What was this woman?

The cops knocked on the door and I watched the copy of myself now approach and open the door. They asked some questions, specifically about a strange woman in red. She lied to them with my face, misleading them with my voice. They wanted to look inside, and she let. They didn’t find my body.

Eventually the police left, bidding my look-alike farewell. Once they were gone and sufficiently far away, she turned back into herself.

Fury filled me. I couldn’t just let her get away with this. I was dead, but I wasn’t gone yet. I didn’t know what she was. I didn’t know what I could do, but I had to try. I was a ghost. So, I should be able to possess things, right?

I didn’t know whether it was possible, but I figured I might as well try. So, I did, I immediately lunge myself at the woman, phasing into her back.
