Chapter 14

Onwards!
Ready, Set, GO!
"We need four large stones, light enough that they can be moved by two people if they are strong, but heavy enough that they can't be moved by one person easily, and large enough that we can bury part of them and still tie a rope to the rest..." Kurvannug explains, and the non-combatants spread out to search.
[Temporary point of view change...]
Vun and Dow, (a pair of young adult goblins,) went off looking for a suitable rock. They knew they couldn't carry it themselves but they had another reason, you see, Vun was planning to propose to Dow, and he wanted to be well away from Dow's mother Bustil.
Bustil didn’t approve of Vun, to quote her frequently expressed opinion of him "That boy ain't ever going to be anything but a Whip-cracker...": meaning that while he might be a **** driver working for another person he would never be able to own slaves of his own.
"She's wrong, I'll be a prince among goblins one of these days! I'm going to make myself a mighty name, four, no SIX, syllables long!* Just you wait Bustil, I'll be more than just a Whip-cracker..." Vun thought to himself.
*(Among the local tribes of goblinoids and orcs a person's power can roughly be gauged by the length of their name. More or less your name will be one syllable long for every three levels you have, with extra syllables for certain special accomplishments such as being a tribe leader**, owning slaves, or having gotten married.)
**(Yes, this does mean that Kurvannug is due to add a syllable to her name...)
The two of them wandered the woods, smiling shyly at one another, untill about an hour later they found what they were looking for, a big hunk of red granite. It was just then that Vun told Dow to sit on the rock and went down to one knee. "Dow, I love you." He said, reaching into his belt pouch. "I know your mother doesn't like me but I'm going to be a real scrapper someday and I want noone to be with me when that happens more than you." He took out a little ring made of copper. "This ring has been in my family for six generations. My mother wore it, my father's mother wore it, his father's mother wore it, and so on. Will you do me the immense honor of wearing it and being my wife?" Vun asked, heart in his throat...
[Point of view changes back...]
Four hours after the scouts went out, Vun and Dow came back into camp with two orcs carrying a big chunk of red granite. The other parties were already back, and the outer three rocks were already in place. It had been decided that Kurvannug, Gomlech, and Pimlul would represent the tribe at the fight with the Adventurer. They would be armed only with mundane gear, so as to make the fight a true risk, and thus earn a blessing not only for themselves but the whole tribe.
As the two came back into camp Pimlul noticed the copper ring on Dow's finger and smiled. She approved of Vun. If he didn't get himself killed that boy was going places...
It was sunset now. The ropes were tied in place, and the Rogue had been restored to full health. Now they handed her her weapons, the same she had borne in the previous fight, and the ritual circle was closed...

Play As One Of The Classic 'Monster' Races From D&D In A World Where It's Humans & Their Allies Who Are Evil.
It is a generic Fantasy world, with one major difference: humans and the other classic protagonist races are evil, decadent, and corrupt, while the classic 'monsters' are noble and virtuous. You take on the role of one of those 'monsters' while they try to overcome the alliance of the 'Civilized' Races and free the world from their oppression.
