Ranvi proves Ventress wrong

Ranvi: I'm sorry that you believe this... Maybe if you spent more time in the order...

Ventress: More time?! I have had more than enough time there! To be honest, I'm glad I left when I did, should have done that way earlier!

Ranvi: I have never heard what really happened there, on Rattatak. Mother Talzin told me you were taken by a slaver, who was threatening the clan with orbital bombardment.

Ventress (with anger): The Nightsisters abandoned and sacrificed me to save their own skin! They didn't care about me or anyone else, only their safety! Even my mother was willing to give up her newborn baby to a slaver, knowing too well what fate awaited such a child!

Ranvi: You were later found by Jedi master Ky Narec, who discovered your **** sensitivity. The official reports said he was killed in a pirate raid and you have been reported missing in combat. Not to be heard of again until Dooku sent you to kill Anakin on Yavin 4. Not even Mother Talzin knew anything about your whereabout, until you showed up as Dooku's apprentice.

Ventress (turning away): My past is something I would rather not talk about.

Ranvi: I want to help you! We are both Nightsisters, I want you to know, I'm there for you! The entire clan is! Even if you weren't contacting them, not even during your years as a Jedi padawan.

Ventress (with anger): Look, that's surely all lovely and sweet of you to appear from nowhere to come and play therapist on me, but I don't need your help, okay?! We haven't even really talked before I left the order, why should we become friends now?! I would rather slit your throat than open up!

Ranvi: Look, I don't want to **** things, I'm just offering you a way out of being a Sith's personal assassin. There has to be a better life than that! I just want to understand, why you have made the decisions, you have.

Ventress: Well, I won't be telling you anything, that's for certain!

Ranvi: I see...

Ranvi takes Ventress's lightsabers into her hands and meditates with them.

Ventress (sceptically): What are you even doing now...?

Ranvi: If I channel the **** through objects, I can see the past related to them. Like, the memories of these objects and their users.

Ventress: Pff, why did you even care asking me then?

Ranvi: Because I care about you and had hoped you would listen to reason the first time you hear it.

As Ranvi begins to see glimpses of Ventress's past, a great sadness and pain strike her. She can feel all the suffering Ventress had to go through in her younger age.

Ranvi (during meditation): I can sense your suffering. You were abused as a small child, often beaten without any particular reason. And worse... Those memories haunted you, even after your slaver master was killed and Ky Narec begun your training.

Ventress (quietly while having flashbacks of her own): Enough...

Ranvi: You have received your lightsaber from him, he was having your twin saber's other half. He raised you like a father. He was way more to you than an ordinary master. You were the heroes or Rattatak, defending the locals from pirates and raiders. The Jedi order decided, that you two should remain on the planet for years, as long as the pirate threat has been completely neutralized. Those were your happiest years...

Ventress (louder): Enough...!

Ranvi: During one of the raids, a pirate sniper shot him in the back... He fell right into your arms, when he had his dying breath... Enraged by your loss, you have taken his lightsaber and massacred all the pirates you could find in the village. You didn't spare any of them, in your dark rage you have made your first steps to the dark side, while all you wanted was to bring your master back to life... But that wasn't possible...

Ventress (sending out a **** push in all directions in the room while crying out): Enough!

Ranvi stops the meditation and puts Ventress's sabers back onto the floor.

Ranvi: I have seen and felt all the pain, sadness and suffering you had to endure for all these years... I'm so sorry...

Ventress: Your "sorry", won't help me forget the pain in my heart!

Ranvi: You are right, it won't. I just want you to think about your actions... Have you really made the right choice by letting the dark side consume you?

Ventress: My past made me who I am now. I can't and don't even want to change it!

Ranvi: It's not your past that you might change, but your future. You don't have to be Dooku's **** forever!

Ventress: Hah, as if I had a choice! When the Jedi betrayed my master by stationing him on Rattatak until he was finally killed, Dooku was the only one who accepted me for who I was! I couldn't have walked back to the Jedi with all the darkness in my heart! Just as I can't walk back now!

Ranvi: The Jedi didn't want your master dear! They would have accepted you back then and they would now too! But you don't have to return to the Jedi. You could live your life in peace, far from all of this war! Or you could return to our clan! They would be more than happy to see you again!

Ventress (turning away): Words won't make any difference. I'll be taken to Coruscant to rot in a fancy little prison for the rest of my days...

Ranvi (deactivating the **** field): Only if you wish to keep serving Dooku...

Ventress (confused): What...? Are you freeing me...? Why are you doing this...?

Ranvi (giving her her lightsabers): So that you could make the difference in your life and make the right decision for yourself. Dooku won't always be your master, deep down you know that too! You may return to him, but I can't allow you to walk freely the next time you are captured...

Ventress (still confused): I... I'll think on what you have just said... But no guarantees... And... Thank you... I suppose you deserved some small gratitude after all...

Ranvi (hugging her): May the **** be with you sister!

Ventress (blushing): Y-yeah... You too, I guess... Haven't said that in years.

Ranvi: You are never too late to start again!

Ventress: One more thing... To be square with you for letting me go... It's the Banking Clan's intricacy. They wanted the whole planet to burn. You should look them up for an answer. But you didn't get the intel from me, got it?

Ranvi: Thank you for telling me about it! We'll look into it right away!

Ventress nods, then rushes out through the door, even if she's naked, her skills in stealth as an assassin allow her to slip out without detection. Later on, when her escape was discovered, Ranvi denied to have ever spoken to Ventress in her cell. You have secretly blamed yourself for leaving her lightsabers in there, certainly she had used them to break free... But you too, would deny any contact with her.

After her failure on Kashyyyk, Dooku sends Ventress to Sullust, to make amends for her failed mission. However, Darth Sidious disapproves of Ventress's growing strength and orders Dooku to kill his apprentice. Reluctantly, but he complies, ordering his droids to shoot at Ventress's fighter and kill her in orbit. He says a final goodbye to her, reminding her how she had failed him for the last time.

Ventress however survives the unexpected betrayal, with severe wounds and not much time to find an place to land her damaged ship. She thinks about what Ranvi had told her about the Nightsisters, that they would welcome her back, had she returned. Crawling back to Dathomir, to look for shelter amongst her own people, Mother Talzin heals and prepares her for her **** against her former master.
